Barbour assumes command position

By Staff
January 14, 2004
Gov. Haley Barbour on Tuesday took charge of a state he believes can do better. We agree, that with Barbour's strong leadership and by forging a good working relationship with the Legislature, we can do better.
Many items await attention, many of them budgetary in nature education, economic development, corrections, Medicaid and the general administration of government. This first legislative session of the new governor's first year is 120 days in length and as the process moves along we will begin to see the real priorities emerge. Hopes are high that the priorities outlined by Barbour in his successful race for the state's top executive position and the Legislature's priorities will dovetail into a meaningful program for moving Mississippi ahead.
