Mississippi State University will face its toughest opponent so far in the 2003-04 basketball season on Tuesday night in Humphrey Coliseum.
The No. 22-ranked Bulldogs host No. 7 Kentucky (10-1, 1-0 Southeastern Conference), as MSU tries to keep its record perfect after starting the season 13-0. Tip off is slated for 8 p.m.
MSU will need a better performance than it got from guard Timmy Bowers against Arkansas, if the Bulldogs hope to knock off Kentucky.
Bowers was limited to just seven points against the Razorbacks last Saturday, but his off night was countered by transfer forward Lawrence Roberts' 29-point, 11-rebound performance in the 80-62 victory.
MSU's week doesn't get any easier after its ESPN nationally televised game against Kentucky. The Bulldogs hit the road to take on LSU in a 2 p.m. match up on Saturday.
The University of Southern Mississippi men's basketball team will try to keep the good times rolling this week after knocking off Memphis last Saturday at home.
The Golden Eagles (8-5, 1-1 Conference USA) hit the road for a pair of road games starting with a trip to Missouri to take on the St. Louis University Billikens (8-5, 1-1 C-USA). USM will tip off against SLU at 7:10 p.m. Tuesday in the Savvis Center.
The Eagles will follow their St. Louis trip with a journey to Green Bay, Wis., to take on No. 23-ranked Marquette at 7:05 p.m. Friday.
Ole Miss will look to rebound from its worst loss of the season, an 80-53 blow out by Auburn, with a road game against Arkansas on Saturday.
The Rebels (8-5, 0-2 SEC) will have a full week to prepare for the Razorbacks (8-5, 0-2 SEC), as they have no games scheduled during the week.
Ole Miss will tip off against Arkansas at 2:05 p.m., as both teams go for their first win in conference play.
While the men's squad refocuses on the practice court, the Lady Rebels hit the road to take on Alabama in a 7 p.m. match up on Thursday.
The Ole Miss women will also be trying to erase the memory of a tough loss when the squad returns to action against Alabama.
The Lady Rebels watched Arkansas come back from a 13-point deficit on Sunday to steal a 67-61 win in Fayetteville, Ark.
Ole Miss will square off against in-state rival MSU following its Thursday contest. The Lady Rebels and Lady Bulldogs are set to tip off at 2 p.m. Sunday in Oxford.
The MSU women (5-9, 0-2 SEC) enter the week of basketball that will end with a road contest against Ole Miss trying to shake off a five-game losing streak. The Lady Bulldogs fell to No. 5-ranked Tennessee 61-53 Sunday at home.
MSU does not have any women's contests scheduled during the week.
The USM women's basketball team opened its C-USA schedule with a home win over Tulane, and the Lady Eagles (13-1, 1-0 C-USA) will look to grab another conference win on Friday.
USM hosts Charlotte at 7 p.m. in Green Coliseum, and the team follows that game with a 2:30 p.m. home game against East Carolina on Sunday.
