COLLINSVILLE The West Lauderdale Lady Knights wanted to make a statement on Tuesday night by taking an impressive win over Morton. The Lady Knights got the win it needed, but not in the form of a great shooting night.
West Lauderdale held the Lady Panthers to three points in the second quarter to take a 41-29 win to improve to 14-5 for the season.
The Lady Knights took a 14-6 lead at the end of the first quarter, but the second quarter was the difference maker in the end. West Lauderdale outscored the Lady Panthers 14-3 to take a 28-9 lead at the end of the first half.
The third quarter was much of the same as the Lady Knights pulled away to a 31-10 lead. Vankeila Wilson led the third quarter charge with six points, and Shannon Lloyd chipped in with four in the third.
Morton cut the lead to 14 points in the closing two minutes of the game, but West Lauderdale was just to strong on defense and held on for the win.
Wilson led West Lauderdale with 13 points and pulled down a team-high six rebounds. Lloyd also turned in a great night for the Lady Knights with 11 points and five rebounds. Jessica McLin led Morton with 10 points, and Jessica Sparkman tallied eight.
West Lauderdale returns to action Saturday at home against Raymond, and Morton (2-11) will be participating in the Scott Central Tournament on Thursday.

Morton hit some three-point shots down the stretch to take a 10-point win over the Knights to earn the split on the night. The Panthers led most of the second half and West Lauderdale (14-5) was never able to cut into the lead.
The Knights led the majority of the first quarter thanks to the inside play of Lee Nelson to give West Lauderdale a 15-11 cushion. Morton (8-5) came storming back to take a 28-26 lead, with 2:23 left in the second quarter. Chris Lloyd had 13 points in the second quarter and finished with a game-high 28 points in the victory.
The Panthers closed out the first half on a 10-0 run and carried the momentum over into the second half with another 6-0 run.
Chris Seaphus led West Lauderdale with 12 points, and Kolin Boyd added 10 in the loss for the Knights.
