Weekend filled with football bowl games

After toasting in the new year and stuffing yourself with black-eyed peas for luck on New Year's Day, what a better way to kick back than to watch some football.
The annual onslaught of college bowl games the final college football games until next fall actually began before Christmas.
The games continue today, when Ole Miss meets Oklahoma State in the Cotton Bowl. And they climax Sunday, when Louisiana State meets Oklahoma in the Sugar Bowl national championship game.
And for college football fans who can't make it to New Orleans for the Bowl Championship Series title game, they could stop by at least two Meridian restaurants Sunday that will host game parties.
Crescent City Grill, at 519 Azalea Drive, will broadcast the game in its Mahogany Bar. Special food and beverages will be served. Cafe Latt, at 820 22nd Ave., will broadcast the game in its Gypsy Lounge opening at 7 p.m.
For those people lucky enough to have the latest television technology, ABC plans to broadcast the Sugar Bowl in high definition and Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound.
High definition broadcasts offer viewers a dramatically clear picture that, in many instances, makes it look like you are gazing through a window. Almost every detail is visible on the screen.
If you don't have a high definition capable TV, you can still catch all of the games on your regular set. And besides the Sugar and Cotton bowls, other games should be just as interesting.
At least until next fall when the 2004 college football season kicks off.
