New twist in Philly tournament

Area basketball fans looking for some action this weekend should find their way to Philadelphia High School for the Philadelphia Christmas Holiday Classic.
Five games are on tap Saturday with four involving boys' teams.
Action gets under way at 1 p.m. with the Williams-Sullivan Yellowjackets taking on the 11-1 Scott Central Rebels.
At 2:15 p.m., the only girls' matchup of the day has the 9-2 Lady Tornadoes of Philadelphia hosting Morton. Both of Philadelphia's losses have been to unbeaten Choctaw Central.
Leading the Lady Tornadoes are Dominetrix Hunter (11.5 ppg, 5.8 rpg), Shanese Hunter (9.0 ppg, 6.5 rpg), Ashley Lowery (8.6 ppg) and Shenique Brass (8.2 ppg, 5.1 apg).
At 3:30 p.m., the Morton Panthers square off with the Kosciusko Whippets.
The 4:45 p.m. contest has the 12-1 Choctaw Central Warriors playing the West Lowndes Panthers. The Warriors are coming off an 80-58 win at Cherokee (N.C.) High School last Saturday.
The day's final game has the host Philadelphia Tornadoes, 8-3, taking on the 2-7 Union Yellowjackets.
In recent years, Philadelphia has hosted a three-day, eight-team boys' tournament during the holidays. This year's event will be neatly packaged into a one-day affair.
Robinson's Tornadoes are 8-3 with two losses to Choctaw Central and another to Newton.
Beamon averages 15.4 points and 8.4 rebounds. Goodin averages 12.3 points and 3.6 assists. Lyons averages 11.6 points and 8.3 rebounds.
Choctaw Central got 19 points each from Rodgrick Anderson and Scott Nickey in a win at Cherokee a week ago.
Jaric Anderson averages 15.1 points and 5.8 rebounds for the Warriors. Sean Ahshapanek adds 12.8 points and 8.4 rebounds, while Rodgrick Anderson averages 10.1 points.
The Rebels of Scott Central are off to an uncharacteristically good 11-1 start. Their only defeat was to Southeast Lauderdale in the opening round of the East Central Classic. Leading Scott Central is Pierre Barlow.
Robinson said Williams-Sullivan may currently have the best boys' team in Division 5-2A.
