Members of Delta New Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. held its 25th anniversary of the Tots and Teens Fashion Show and the Lil' Ms. Zeta Blue Revue pageant on Dec. 6 at the Council of Organizations building.
Organizers say the community filled the hall in support of this scholarship event.
Kendra Reed, the 10-year-old daughter of Darlyn Reed and Ken Walker, was crowned Lil' Ms. Zeta 2004. She was escorted by Brandon Walk, son of Tereas Hicks.
Brittany Davis, the 17-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. B. Davis, was crowned Ms. Blue Revue 2004. She was escorted by Derrick Jackson, son of Gloria Clayton Jackson and Larry Clayton.
Other contestants in the pageant for Lil' Ms. Zeta were:
Jasmine Leggette, 10, daughter of Veronica Glover and La Shawn Strickland. She was escorted by Justin Kimbrough, 9, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. Boyd.
Karlencia Turner, 6, the daughter of Morgan and Kelita Turner. She was escorted by her brother, Tirobio Ball, 12.
Kewanee Beason, 9, the daughter of Keisha Kidd. She was escorted by Lewis Trey Sutton.
Vanisha Keeton, 6, the daughter of Stivie Keeton and Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Bryant. She was escorted by Ronnie Hopson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Hopson.
Kristen Blanks, 10, daughter of Lynda Wilson and Joe Blanks. She was escorted by Justin Kimbrough.
Participants in Ms. Blue Revue were:
Dana Lewis, 16, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. P. Lewis. She was escorted by Patrick Hearns, son of Jerry Leggett and Sandra Palmer.
Keemonica Gowdy, 17, daughter of Linda Hicks. She was escorted by Anthony Morrow, 15, the son of Mary Morrow and Albert Morrow.
The mistress of ceremony was Andrea Williams of WTOK-TV. She heralded the event by explaining the theme, "25 years of Building a Circle of Love." Cassandra Hall sang "Wind Beneath my Wings" as the ladies in blue entered carrying lit candles and encircled the crowd.
Archonettes Ebonee Ball and April Larkin led the opening devotion with a prayer and scripture.
The attention was then focused on the stage as Williams announced the models. The crowed cheered as the Tots and Teens "strutted their stuff" in the latest fashions. The Lil' Ms. Zeta contestants presented a dance.
Vanisha Keeton presented a liturgical dance and Jasmine Leggette recited a poem.
The Blue Revue contestants also presented their talents, Dana Lewis and Keemonica Gowdy both gave a rendition of their choice of song and Brittany Davis presented a liturgical dance.
The crowd was then treated to a moving dance performance by guest artist G. Burwell.
A new segment was added to the program this year, celebrating the 25 years of the fashion show. The alumni models were presented with their children. They were Amy Hill and Jordyn, Ronal Hearns and Railyn, and Tracey Collins and Josiha.
At the closing, all participants, parents and guardians were graciously applauded for their part in helping to make this event a success.
The ladies of Delta New Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. thank the contestants, parents, guardians and all program participants for their support of this scholarship fund-raising event. About 100 cans of food also were collected and donated to LOVE's Kitchen.
The next event for the chapter will be the Step Show on March 6 and then the "Our Salute to Outstanding Minority Youth" program on March 28.
