Excellence in Education

Delila Shantea House of Quitman has been selected to receive the Rea, Shaw, Griffin &Stuart scholarship at Meridian Community College. The partners, associates and staff of the local accounting firm fund the $1,500 award through the MCC Foundation.
House is a 2003 high honors graduate of Quitman High School. She was a member of the National Honor Society and Future Business Leaders of America. She was a student council representative, class secretary and a member of the cheerleading squad.
After graduation, House plans to pursue a career as a certified public accountant.
Laura Elizabeth Lang of Meridian has been selected to receive the Beverly Barham Memorial Scholarship at Meridian Community College for the fall and spring semesters. Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Barham fund the $400 award through the MCC Foundation.
Lang is a graduate of Northeast Lauderdale High School. She was a National Honor Society member and received several awards from the U.S. Achievement Academy. She is a member of the Dusty Service Club. She is in the University Transfer Program and plans to pursue a bachelor's degree in nursing.
Three outstanding sophomores have been selected to receive the Austin and Alice James Accounting scholarships at Meridian Community College. These $1,000 awards are funded through the MCC Foundation from an endowment established in 1944 by Great Southern National Bank in honor of Mr. and Mrs. James.
Farrah Robinson is a 2002 graduate of Enterprise High School. She was class valedictorian and was named to Who's Who Among American High School Students. A dean's list scholar, she is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for two-year college students.
Robinson plans to pursue a master's degree in accounting and become a Certified Public Accountant.
Leon D. Herlong is a 2001 honor graduate of Northeast Lauderdale High School. He was on the Trojan football team, he was a member of the honor society and was named to Who's Who Among American High School Students. At Northeast, Herlong was presented the president's award for educational excellence.
Herlong plans to continue his education and seek a degree in either computer science or business administration.
Justin McDonald is a 2002 high honors graduate of Quitman High School. A dean's list scholar, he is a member of Phi Theta Kappa and serves as the chapter treasurer. McDonald is vice-president of the College Republicans and is treasurer for the college activities board.
McDonald plans to pursue a bachelor's degree in accounting and a master's degree in business administration.
