Carver upgrade a good sign

Under new guidelines, there is a huge distinction between a level one, "low-performing" school and a level two, "under-performing school." We mention that distinction in connection with a revised rating that has been awarded to Carver Middle School after a final review of Mississippi Curriculum Test scores by the state Department of Education.
Carver's level was upgraded, a very pleasant finding for students, faculty and staff at the school and for the Meridian community. The new level was characterized last week as an early Christmas present and it is surely that.
We are encouraged by two facts: First, that the state Department of Education wants to make sure no mistakes are made in school classification ratings and is willing to change ratings that are wrong; and second, that Carver's level was boosted.
It's a sign that progress is being made on the Meridian education front, but also a sign that much more progress is necessary. The folks at Carver seem committed to the task.
