Lamar dominated MPSA postseason awards just as much as the Raiders dominated opponents this season.
The Class AAA Division II state champions had eight players named to the All-AAA first team this week, and five more found their place on the second team.
Running back Lane Rush, tight end Justin Smith, wide receiver David Haggard and offensive lineman Roland Terry were named to the first team offense. Defensive lineman Vaughan Waters, defensive end Paul Mayfield, linebacker Zeb Swain and defensive back Randy Boyd Thompson were on the first team defense.
Three other Raiders made the second team offense. They are wide receiver Blake Olmsted, offensive lineman Jeff Tate and kicker Tommy Edgerton. Linebacker Tyler Evans and defensive back Travis Raley were each named to the second team defense.
Offensive linemen Lowry Rush and Kemp Mosley, defensive lineman Eric Stubbs, linebacker Will Carter and defensive back Scott Owen were named honorable mentions.
Quarterback Drew Moffett, who passed for 22 touchdowns against just six interceptions, was named most outstanding offensive player in AAA. Moffett threw for 1,781 yards this season, and he also rushed for 12,29 yards and 13 touchdowns.
The Raiders coaching staff, led by head coach Mac Barnes, won the award for coaching staff of the year.
Lamar won its first state championship in a 48-7 blowout win over Madison-Ridgeland Academy. The victory completed an 11-2 season for the Raiders.
