Meridian CC soccer signs four players to scholarships

Three local prep standouts made up the bulk of Meridian Community College's soccer signees on Monday as MCC introduced the first four members of its 2004 signing class.
Brandi Wright and Bethany Spidle of Clarkdale signed with the Lady Eagles, as did Kirby Shelby of Terry. Paul Tate of Northeast Lauderdale was the lone signee for the boys' team. The three local players all come to the soccer program straight from high school, but Shelby is already a freshman at MCC.
Wright, a sweeper, follows in her sister Morgan's footsteps. Morgan Wright was a member of the first Lady Eagles squad two seasons ago, and the younger Wright said her experience with George made her decision easy.
Wright's fellow Clarkdale native, Spidle, is skipping her senior season with the Lady Bulldogs but said she expects George will bring her along quickly.
Spidle described herself as a "homebody" and said she is excited about staying close to home.
George's lone signee for the boys' team, Tate is a fifth-year player at Northeast Lauderdale. He is the Trojans' captain and leading scorer, and George said he will be able to contribute quickly.
Tate said the decision to play for the Eagles was not a hard one.
