Remember count your blessings this Thanksgiving

By By Beth Randall / 4-H youth agent
Nov. 23, 2003
Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on the many blessings we have been given. The song that goes "Count your blessings, name them one by one" comes to my mind. I don't slow down often enough to count my blessings and see how rich I am.
There are oh so many ways in which I am richly blessed. First, I am thankful for my faith and the freedom of religion. I am also very blessed to have my family, yes even my sister who at times annoys me. Friends whom I can depend on in good times and bad are another reason to be thankful.
The ability to work and earn money is another blessing and I am doubly thankful for being the 4-H Youth Agent in Lauderdale County. You see, not only do I work with the greatest Extension staff but I also have the pleasure of working with wonderful adult 4-H volunteer leaders and the all-time best 4-H'ers.
I count my blessings at each accomplishment a 4-H'er or volunteer makes. It thrills my heart when a shy 4-H'er learns to speak in front of a group, or a 4-H member wins a national trip because of his record keeping skills. It is especially rewarding when a former 4-H'er, now a college student, visits and shares with me how the 4-H experiences made an impact on her life. It is thrilling when an adult comes to me willing to start a new 4-H club and make a huge difference in the lives of so many boys and girls.
You see, life is much too short not to realize the joy of each day. Enjoy every smile you are given, each sunset you see, and every giggle you hear. Each one is a blessing not to be taken for granted. I urge you this Thanksgiving to count your blessings. You, too, will be amazed at how richly blessed you are.
