Knights knock off Panthers

The West Lauderdale Knights used a 23-16 advantage over the middle quarters to knock off Quitman 55-49 Saturday night at Collinsville in boys' basketball action.
The Knights (6-2) took a 24-20 lead into halftime and held a 35-29 advantage going into the fourth quarter.
West led by as many as nine points in the third quarter.
Quitman got to within 35-34 on a 3-point basket by Jamien Robinson and a deuce from Antoinne McKenzie at the 7:24 mark.
An 8-0 run gave the Knights a 47-36 lead with just under three minutes showing. Chris Seaphus scored two baskets during the run.
The Panthers hit a trio of 3-pointers in a 55-second span to close to within 51-47 with a minute remaining, but Seaphus hit two free throws and Lee Nelson dunked with 30 seconds left to preserve the win.
Seaphus led West with 21 points. Nelson scored 12, Kolin Boyd had 10, and Daniel Huggins added eight.
Quitman (4-3) got 11 points from Robinson, nine of which came from behind the arc in the fourth quarter. Brett Jones scored eight points, McKenzie and Belton Parks both had seven, and Prince Trotter scored six.

The Lady Knights used a 10-0 run in just under three minutes in the second quarter to take a lead they wouldn't relinquish in improving to 6-2.
The Lady Panthers led 15-12 after one quarter, but the 10-0 run put West up 24-15 and the Lady Knights carried a 30-26 advantage into halftime. In the run, Shannon Lloyd scored twice from close range, Cierra Jennings hit a 3-pointer and Vankeila Wilson made a three-point play.
West took its biggest lead of the night at 50-31 in the first minute of the fourth quarter.
