All leagues have now completed first round action and are starting the journey toward the midpoint of the season. In the Queen City league the Shi-Nell Industries team came on strong to capture the first roll-off spots in that league. The Ball &Chain league saw the Car Quest team tied with "The Heavy Weights" at the end of regulations play which forced a one-game roll-off that came down to the last frame before Car Quest squeaked out a narrow victory and first round honors. The final league to complete first round action was the Senior Citizens league where the "Audibel" team claimed the top spot by two games over "One More Time."
Taking a look at the juniors first this week, Josh Coleman continues to roll by recording a 234 Saturday morning and a 221/605 on Wednesday afternoon. Curtis Woods came through with a nice 215/589 effort in the Dixie Major-Seniors while Matt Smith and Albert Edmonds III each scored big with 205 games. Trey Gaines scattered pins for a 214/513 set and Robert Davis and Chris Winkleblech both carded 500 or better series. Randi Allen took the lead for the girls with a nice 195/519 performance. In the Prep division, young Jerry Dearman was the star of the show with a very nice 214/483. In the Wednesday afternoon Fun Time league, Chase Dooley came through with a 207/527 and Matthew Alawine showed that practice pays off as he crunched a nice 212 while on his way to a 500 series.
Mary Copeland used a nice 236 game to notch her second consecutive 600 Series while recording the only "6" of the week with a 639. Matar McClinton held down the high game for the ladies with a 244 while Eunice Dillard made her mark with a 237. Neoma Huffman came on strong with a nice 232 game and Sue Kirkpatrick was close behind with a 231. Rounding out the top scores were Tandee Marx (222) and Shelia Dearman (221). Congratulations to Terrie Scott who picked up her first deuce with a nice 207 game in the Wednesday Night Mixed league, and to Bowlerettes league Bowler of the Week Anna Moreno.
Mike Cothern continued to sizzle, adding two more 7s to his total with a 738 and a 704. Mike also held down the high game for the week with a 289. Keith Fike also turned in a fine performance in the Queen City league by throwing ten straight strikes of his own to record a 287 game before ending the night with a 737 series. Don Sabella made the right adjustments and pounded out a nice 718, making that two consecutive weeks above the line. Also a big pat on the back goes out to James Pierce who used a 283 game to help boost him to his first career 700 series at 706. C.O. Gray continued to find the mark and chalked up a 713. A long list of guys checked in the big game department including Don Waldron who powered out a 286, Wayne Griffin with a 279, Tim Van Doren at 278, Bill Jones and Jack Blythe who each landed games of 267 and Don McWilliams who checked in with a 266. Guys reaching the 250 plateau included Robby Relinski, Milton Hudson, Brian Mattox, Robert Brown, William Allen, Rodney Bounds, and Marty McMullen.
Be sure to get your entries in for the State Mixed Tournament which starts this weekend at Hub Lanes in Hattiesburg. As always, this tournament features Teams and Doubles events as well as an optional All-Events. The tournament continues each weekend through Nov. 16.
That's all for this week. Until next week. . . Good luck and good bowling!
