ENTERPRISE The Enterprise Bulldogs moved a total of two yards in two scoring possessions to take a 19-6 win over Heidelberg High on Friday night in Enterprise.
The Bulldogs forced a fumble on the one-yard line and took over at the one later in the second half after pressuring a punt attempt. Enterprise took advantage of the unbeatable field position as Adam Simpson carried the ball in for two touchdowns.
The Enterprise defense and the rain-soaked field forced eight Heidelberg turnovers in the big Division 7-2A game.
The wet weather and turnovers on the exchange also helped slow down Doug Ryans in the second half. Ryans rushed for over 80 yards in the first half, but was held to just 28 yards in the second half.
Enterprise put together a 16-play drive in the first half to take an early lead over the visiting Oilers. Simpson and Cody Windham helped the Bulldogs move down the field.
Simpson finished off the drive with a two-yard touchdown run on fourth down. Wade Weathers kicked the PAT to give the Bulldogs a 7-0 lead in the second quarter.
Heidelberg moved the ball down the field on the ensuing possession, but an interception by Corey Irby on the three-yard line stopped the Oiler drive.
Heidelberg came back on its next possession to reach the end zone. Ryans broke free on a 20-yard run to put the Oilers on the board with 3:28 left in the first half. The two-point conversion failed and Enterprise held a 7-6 lead at half.
In the second half, things went bad for the Oilers. Heidelberg fumbled the ball four out of five plays in the second half to help the Bulldogs extend the lead.
After Heidelberg fumbled for the first time in the half, the Bulldogs' drive stalled and Enterprise pinned the Oilers with a punt to the one-yard line.
On the first play from scrimmage Heidelberg fumbled and Justin Mars picked up the ball at the one for the Bulldogs.
Simpson carried the ball in on the next play to make the score 13-6 with 6:44 left in the third quarter.
Heidelberg fumbled the ball on its second play after the kickoff and Michael Dow fell on it to give Enterprise good field position. The Bulldogs fumbled the ball back to the Oilers five plays later, however.
On their first play from scrimmage, the Oilers fumbled the ball once again to give Enterprise good field position.
The Bulldogs weren't able to reach the end zone and turned the ball over on downs at the Heidelberg seven-yard line. The Oilers moved backwards on penalties and had to punt from their own one-yard line.
The punt was pressured and the punter was forced to run and throw the ball incomplete. The Bulldogs took over on the one and Simpson carried the ball in to make the score 19-6.
Heidelberg turned the ball over two more times in the game as Dow fell on another fumble and Simpson picked off a long pass in the end zone to secure the win for the Bulldogs.
Enterprise moves to 5-2 and 2-0 in division play after the win. Heidelberg drops to 4-2 and 0-2 in division play. The Bulldogs will travel to take on Taylorsville next week while the Oilers will take on Bassfield.
