Part of Interstate 20 closed after accident

October 4, 2003
The eastbound lanes of Interstate 20 between Chunky and Lost Gap were closed for several hours Friday after a UPS truck wrecked and caught fire.
The accident occurred about 4 a.m., according to officials, who also said the driver was not seriously injured.
Dale Weir, chief of the Lost Gap Volunteer Fire Department, said the truck was hauling two 20-foot trailers.
The cause of the crash and the fire have not been determined but officials believe the fire started in the cab of the truck and spread to the first trailer, Weir said.
The Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to the accident. Meehan and Russell volunteer fire departments also were called to the scene. The interstate re-opened about 9 a.m.
