Noxapater falls to East Webster
The Noxapater softball team lost to East Webster 15-11 on Tuesday.
Constance Triplett (10-8) took the loss for Noxapater on the mound, and Nikki Jones recorded the win for East Webster.
Larita Bates, Sydney Kirk, Ashley Carter and Janeka Moore each had two hits for Noxapater in the loss.
Carter had two doubles for Noxapater, and Moore had one double.
Noxapater fell to 7-3 in Division 4 and finished in third place. The team will meet the the second place team from Division 1 on Oct. 11.

USM freshman QB impresses at practice
HATTIESBURG The Southern Miss Golden Eagles continued their game-week preparation for Cincinnati with an afternoon exercise on Tuesday.
Southern Miss (2-2, 2-0 in Conference USA) takes on the Bearcats (3-1, 1-0), Saturday, at Nippert Stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Head Coach Jeff Bower said freshman quarterback Damion Carter has been improving each day.
Bower said that both defensive end Terrell Paul and running back Tim Blackwell should be fine for Saturday's game against the Bearcats. Offensive lineman Travis Cooley, however, may not be ready for the game.

MSU rookies challenge veterans Friday
STARKVILLE Fans get an opportunity to preview the 2004 MSU baseball team Friday at Dudy Noble Field, Polk-DeMent Stadium when Mississippi State conducts its annual Maroon-White fall baseball game. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. and there is no charge for admission.
The event kicks off a weekend in which two of Mississippi State University's most celebrated baseball stars, first baseman Will Clark and pitcher Jeff Brantley, are inducted into the MSU Sports Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony will be held at halftime of the Mississippi State-Vanderbilt football game Saturday at Scott Field/Davis Wade Stadium.
Friday's fall game will pit the MSU veterans against the Bulldog rookies.

MSU finishes in sixth place
MANHATTAN, Kan. The final round of the Jim Colbert Intercollegiate in Manhattan was cancelled due to inclement weather in the area. Results from the first and second rounds are final.
Mississippi State finished the 36-hole tournament in sixth-place after shooting a two-round total of 609. Two Bulldog linksters finished in the top-20. Junior Joe Deraney and Jake Lambert finished tied for 15th and 19th respectively.
