DECATUR The Meridian Community College has been living dangerously and that was the case on Sunday afternoon. The Eagles took a hard fought 2-1 road victory over East Central.
MCC head coach Alex George evaluated his team's performance after a different match from a few weeks ago with the Warriors.
Meridian took an impressive 8-0 win at home earlier this season and George also commented on the difference of the two games.
Meridian got its first goal with 34:12 left in the opening period to take a 1-0 edge over the Warriors. Former West Lauderadle standout Andrew Culpepper was given credit for the score for the Eagles. Culpepper also tallied a goal in the match against ECCC at Meridian earlier in the
season.
Meridian looked to pull away moments later in the contest with its second goal. Brandon Rogers delivered a beautiful cross-over pass to Benton Dufour to give Meridian the 2-0 advantage with 29:32 left in the first.
East Central looked to get right back into the match with 22:55 left in the first. ECCC was granted a penalty kick after a rough foul by MCC keeper Will Sowell in the box. Ryan Stewart came on to take the kick, but the ball would sail far right and the score remained 2-0 in favor of MCC.
The Warriors did find a way to cut into the MCC lead with 19:48 left in the first period. John Theobald was able to sneak his shot past Sowell and into the goal to make the score 2-1.
