War Eagles, Panthers face battle

It has been three years since Wayne County and Quitman have met on the gridiron, but that will change tonight. Wayne County (4-0, 1-0) will be making the short trip to Quitman to tangle with the Panthers in a crucial Division 5-4A matchup.
Other South area games this week are: Lake at Enterprise, Heidelberg Academy at Kemper Academy, Wayne Academy at Winston Academy, and Prentiss Christian at Sylva-Bay Academy.
Quitman took a 21-7 win over Newton County last week to push its overall record to 2-2. This will be the first division game for the Panthers and Holloman knows that the eyes of Mississippi will be on Quitman and Wayne County.
Wayne County remained ranked second in the state after a convincing 56-0 win over Florence last Friday night. Wayne County head coach Marcus Boyles hopes that the success of his War Eagles continues.
QHS' Mike McLendon had a career night last week against Newton County with 288 yards rushing and three touchdowns. Quitman finished the game with 308 yards of total offense against the Cougars.
Wayne County quarterback J.J. Taylor continued to fill the role of signal-caller for the War Eagles with a pair of touchdowns last week in the game against Florence.
at Enterprise
The Enterprise Bulldogs will be looking to get back into the win column when the Lake Hornets pay a visit to L.J. Davis Field for a big homecoming game for the Bulldogs.
Enterprise is coming off a 26-6 loss at the hands of Newton last week. The Bulldogs have lost two straight and hope to change that against the Hornets. In the loss last Friday against Newton, Enterprise was paced on offense by Cody Windham. Windham led the Enterprise offensive attack with 69 yards on 18 carries.
The Bulldogs finished the game with 284 yards of total offense in the game. Enterprise wasted several scoring opportunities due to turnovers in the red zone.
Lake is on the opposite side of the coin with two straight wins after a 54-6 victory over Madison St. Joseph last week.
In the victory for the Hornets, Greg Sanders had 94 yards rushing on 10 carries. Sanders also tallied a 35-yard touchdown in the contest, while Terrell Ricks followed with 62 yards on five carries. The Hornets concluded the night with 397 total yards, with 361 coming on the ground.
Heidelberg Academy
at Kemper Academy
After starting the season with two disappointing losses (Columbia Academy and Lamar) the Heidelberg Academy Rebels are back to their old ways. The Rebels have scored over 40 points in the last two games and will be looking for the explosive offense to continue with Kemper.
Senior quarterback Brooks Lewis had a pair of touchdown passes in the 41-13 win over Winston Academy last week.
Kemper Academy was blanked last Friday on the road at Sylva-Bay by a final of 48-0.
Wayne Academy
at Winston Academy
The Jaguars celebrated Homecoming on the right note last week with a 41-8 win over Newton County Academy. Wayne got the job done with the rushing attack.
Patton Stanley had a pair of rushing touchdowns in the win, plus Brett Coxwell also tallied a touchdown on the ground as well.
On defense for the Jaguars, Clark Joiner had an 84-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown in the win. Garet James also had an interception to lead the Jaguar defense.
Prentiss Christian
at Sylva-Bay Academy
The Saints will be looking to keep their winning ways going this week against Prentiss Christian. Sylva-Bay took a 48-0 win over Kemper last Friday, but this week the Saints will be celebrating Homecoming.
Sylva-Bay is continuing to get great performances on offense from a pair of top stars. Cody Phillips is leading the way for the Saints with several 100-yard rushing games this season.
Quarterback John Thompson will also look to lead the passing attack this week as well.
