    Obituaries for Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2003

    Retired
    Services for Frankie Pace Moore were to be held today at 10 a.m. at Stephens Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Dr. Raymon Leake and Dr. Kevin Jones officiating. Burial was to be in Magnolia Cemetery.
    Mrs. Moore, 80, of Meridian, died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2003, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center. She was a retired occupational therapist at East Mississippi State Hospital. She was a member of First Baptist Church and a former member of State Boulevard Baptist Church.
    Survivors include her husband, William R. "Bob" Moore of Meridian; a son, Retired Major Gen. William Frank Moore and his wife, Carol, of Satellite Beach, Fla.; a daughter, Cathy Moore Heflin, LPC, of Plano, Texas; granddaughters, Rachel Moore Thomas, M.D. of New Orleans, Laurel Francis Moore, J.D. of Tampa and Sarah Anne Moore of Madison; a grandson, Charles R. Heflin, M.D. of Greenville, N.C.; sisters, Fannie Mae Gibson and Edna Matheny, both of Meridian; a special niece, Sue Hurtt Brown and her husband, Bobby; and several nieces and nephews.
    She was preceded in death by a son, Joe Keith Moore, M.D.; parents, Frank and Beulah Pace; sisters, Bonnie Jean Hurtt, Abbey Beaty, and Eunice Wells; and a brother, Marion Pace.
    Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Meridian, the Gideons International or a charity of choice.
    Pallbearers will be Ray Matheny, Butch Gibson, Leslie Moore, Charles Naylor, Ray Williams, Bobby Brown, Wayne McGee, Paul Cummings and Al Mitchell.
    Honorary pallbearers will be Roy McAllister, Owen Jones, William Parker, Jim Cady, Jack Jackson, Charles Norman, David Deeb, Huff Brown, George Jones, Dr. Harry Causey and Alston Buntyn.
    Retired
    Graveside services for Ruby C. Stuart will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Magnolia Cemetery with the Rev. Tim P. Horton officiating. James F. Webb Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
    Mrs. Stuart, 90, of DeKalb, died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2003, in DeKalb. She was a retired housekeeper at East Mississippi State Hospital.
    Survivors include her son, Edward P. Stuart and his wife, Sue, of Porterville; sisters, Everedee Stevenson of Meridian, Ola Mae Thornton and Doris Caldwell, both of Prismatic; grandchildren, Debi Whitt and her husband, Lee, of Lauderdale, Edward P. Stuart Jr. and his wife, Debbie, and Joetta Chandlee and her husband, Mark, all of Porterville, and Lee Stuart of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
    Visitation will be today 5 p.m.-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
    Retired dietitian
    Services for Essie Bufford will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at First Union Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Jackson officiating. Burial will be in Meridian Memorial Park Cemetery. Berry and Gardner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
    Mrs. Bufford, 102, of Meridian, died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2003, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center.
    Survivors include her sister, Lillie Ray Rogers of Meridian; nephews, Charles Edward Ray, Robert Bobby Jackson and Walter D. Ray; nieces, Mildred Moore, Gloria Ray Moore, Abdur Rahman and Monica Moore; several other great-nephews, great-nieces, other relatives and friends.
    She was preceded in death by her husband.
    Visitation will be today 4 p.m.-5 p.m. at the funeral home.
    Easton, Md. Memorial services for Bonnie McLemore Hooker were held Aug. 15, 2003, in Easton. Burial was in Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C. on Aug. 27.
    Mrs. Hooker, 67, died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2003, at Talbot Hospice in Easton. She was born in Jackson and attended high school in Meridian before going to the University of Mississippi, where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma fraternity.
    She married a career Army officer and traveled to Germany, Iran, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia and various Army posts in the United States. Bonnie served as the Mississippi page to the DAR Continental Congress and as a Red Cross executive in Loudon County, Va. and Teheran, Iran.
    She was a registered descendant of Pocahontas, she was also recognized as a member of the Scottish clan Campbell. She was an authority on cross-stitch and for several years prepared noted pieces for the Smithsonian's Trees of Christmas exhibits. She held memberships in the Talbot County Women's Club, the Questers, the Isaac Walton League and the Antiques Club.
    Survivors include her husband, Col. Richard D. Hooker Sr. (retired) of Preston, Md.; daughters, Dorothy Hooker Pierce of Fayetteville, N.C., and Mary Anne Hooker Martin of Smithfield, Va.; a son, Lt. Col. (P) Richard D. Hooker Jr. of Ft. Myer, Va.; grandchildren, Megan Duncan, Evelyn Pearce, Price Martin, Victoria Martin, Christopher Hooker, David Hooker and Rachel Hooker; and a sister, Mary Anthony McLemore Weaver of Akron, Ohio.
