MWBA State nears the end

With five weekends in thebooks and only two weekends remaining, the 43rd Annual MWBA State Tournament is nearing the end of its seven week stay in Meridian. The first five weekends have produced lots of excitement, big scores and, of course, plenty of fun.
The local ladies have done an excellent job hosting the tournament. Mary Formby, Jane Gibson and all of the ladies have lost more than a little sleep making sure scorekeepers are rounded up, last minute subs are located, providing gift bags and all the other little things that you don't see that it takes to put on such an event. And if you missed Cassandra Hall's rendition of the National Anthem a couple of weeks ago, you missed a real treat. Maybe we can coax her back for a repeat performance before the tournament ends.
Don't forget the annual State Games of Mississippi will be headed into town soon. The bowling portion of the tournament will be held June 28-29 with shifts at 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday and noon and 2 p.m. Sunday. Medals will be awarded following the conclusion of the final shift. Entry forms are available at Dixie Bowl Lanes. For any assitance contact Shayne or Lisa Barfield.
Also, later this month several of our junior bowlers will be making the trek to Diamond Head to take part in the YABA State Tournament. We wish all of our local participants the best of luck.
The 2003 Summer leagues are off and rolling. One bowler is needed to fill a team on Tuesday night and three bowlers are needed to complete the line up in the Trio league on Thursday. If you are interested in filling any of these positions contact Dixie Bowl Lanes.
Finally, good luck and best wishes go out to Meridian bowler Greg Taylor who underwent back surgery last week. We hope you have a speedy recovery and make your way back to the lanes soon.
That's all for this week. Until next week. . . good luck and good bowling!
