Knights get bats rolling at Newton Co.

DECATUR Bo Davis hit for the cycle and the West Lauderdale bats finally got cranked up as the Knights powered past Newton County 15-8 on Monday night baseball action.
Davis scored four runs on the night and finished off the cycle with a three-run homer in the top of the seventh as the Knights scored 15 unanswered runs.
The Cougars jumped out to a lead on the Knights, but Drew Snider came in and, after giving up a grand slam, settled down and was nearly unhittable down the stretch for West.
With the win, West Lauderdale picks up their 798th victory for Boatner and improves to 18-6 this season.
The Knights will try to ride the momentum into tonight's first-round playoff game with Franklin County at 6 p.m. at West Lauderdale. The Knights will travel to Franklin County on Friday and then play back at home on Saturday if necessary.
Newton County jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the game. A double by Josh Avant brought in Mylan Anderson and Jared Cavenaugh singled in Avant to make the score 2-0 after the first.
The Cougars added four more runs in the second as West Lauderdale made an error and Will Pearson and Anderson each singled to load the bases. Snider came in to face Brandon Ezell, but gave up a grand slam to make the score 6-0.
From there on it was all West Lauderdale as the Knights came storming back. Snider singled to start a rally in the third inning.
Davis doubled and Randy Dively walked. Trent Posey walked to bring in a run and Richie McAllister brought in a run with a sacrifice fly to make the score 6-2.
Miles Joyner singled in a run and Jay Warren brought in a run with a fielder's choice. C. Jay Fountain just missed tying the game as his rip to the left field wall was robbed by Sam McDill.
West Lauderdale added a run in the fourth as Davis tripled and scored on a wild pitch.
The Knights took over the lead in the fifth inning and McAllister and Joyner each singled and Warren brought them in with a clutch double to make the score 7-6.
Davis reached on a single in the sixth, stole second and came around to score on two wild pitches to make the score 8-6.
The Knights added three more runs in the inning on a bunt by Posey and a single by Warren to make the score 11-6.
Davis completed the cycle with the three-run homer in the seventh and the Knights added a run on errors.
Snider struck out 10 batters in five and two-third innings to hold the lead. Newton County scored a couple of mop-up runs as Pearson and Colby Amis doubled in the seventh, but West held on for the 15-8 win.
