UNION West Lauderdale's Trent Posey and Union's Jody Blount hooked up for their second classic pitchers' duel in seven days Friday night with Posey's Knights taking a 1-0 win at Laird Park.
Posey's solo homer to left field to lead off the top of the seventh provided the game's only run.
The two seniors hooked up in a dandy Saturday at Collinsville with West winning 4-2. Blount tossed a four-hitter in a losing effort, while Posey allowed five hits in getting the win.
In Friday's rematch, both were even sharper.
Posey (5-2) allowed three hits, all of which were singles. He issued only one walk and retired 16 batters in a row from the first through the sixth innings.
Blount (3-2) also allowed three hits, a double each by Randy Dively and Richie McAllister to go with Posey's round tripper. Blount did not give up any walks.
Posey struck out 10, while Blount fanned seven.
The Knights managed only four baserunners, with Drew Snider erased on a stolen base attempt by Union catcher Zach Robinson in the top of the fifth.
Union is leading Division 6-1A, while 10-time state champion West is on top in Division 5-3A.
Posey's second inning walk to Sean Ferrell turned out to be the game's only free pass.
Posey left impressed with Blount's two outings.
throws the ball good. It's hard to get a lot of hits on somebody of that calibre."
Posey got the one hit that mattered most after being fooled by Blount's curve ball in his previous at-bat.
that was what I was looking for and I got my best cut."
Blount had two singles out of Union's three hits. Robinson also singled for the Yellowjackets.
Union's biggest threat came in the first inning when the Jackets loaded the bases with one out. Posey came back to strike out Wes Henry and got Jordan Robinson to ground out to McAllister at first base to escape the inning unscathed.
West (13-5) hosts Newton today at 1 p.m. and goes to Meridian tonight for a 7 p.m. contest.
Union (15-8) travels to Enterprise today for a 2 p.m. contest.
