Clarkdale overcame a bad first inning to take a 9-4 win over Enterprise in prep softball action Thursday night.
Homestanding Enterprise scored four runs in the first inning to take an early lead, but Clarkdale used a big third inning to come back to take the win and improve to 11-4 overall and 2-0 in district play.
Clarkdale scored a run in the top of the first to take a lead.
JorD'an Orr walked to start the game and stole second base. Brandi Wright followed with a hit to bring in Orr for a 1-0 lead.
After a walk, Leslie Speed came through with a very rare feat for Enterprise.
The second baseman caught a line drive by Sabrina Woodall, tagged the runner, who was moving on the play, and stepped on second for an unassisted triple play to end the inning.
Enterprise answered with four runs to take over the lead. Brittany Speed and Morgan Robinson both walked to start the inning.
After two strikeouts, Ashton Shirley delivered a two-run triple.
Charly Speed followed with another triple to bring in a run. The final run of the inning came on a wild pitch for a 4-1 Enterprise advantage.
Clarkdale cut into the lead with a run in the second inning.
Lindsay Dawkins singled and Savannah Satcher followed with a hit to right field. Satcher was thrown out at home, but Dawkins scored to cut Enterprise's lead to 4-2.
Clarkdale scored four runs in the top of the third inning. Bethany Spidle walked and Orr followed with a shot to left field. The ball went to the fence, and Enterprise missed a cut-off to allow Orr to come all the way home to tie the score at four.
After a walk by Wright, Woodall ripped the ball into the gap and came all the way around when Enterprise missed another cut-off to make the score 6-4.
In the fourth inning, Orr tripled to left and scored on a double steal later in the inning. After reaching base on a single, Woodall scored on a hit by Emily Howard for an 8-4 lead, after four innings.
Clarkdale added another run when Woodall tripled in the sixth inning and scored on a sacrifice fly by Howard.
Howard picked up the win on the mound for Clarkdale. She pitched seven innings and struck out eleven batters to pick up the victory.
Enterprise drops to 5-7 overall and 1-1 in district play after the loss. It will travel to play Stringer Saturday. Clarkdale will also be in action Saturday as it travels to play in the Clinton Tournament.
