Electricity was restored to a section of downtown Meridian after an underground power vault caught fire at the Marks-Rothenberg Building early Tuesday.
Kurt Brautigam, spokesman for Mississippi Power Co., said the outage affected about 30 customers. He said that all but about 10 customers had power restored in about 30 minutes.
Brautigam said those without power during the day included the downtown Trustmark National Bank building, the Threefoot Building and the Ready &Associates law offices building.
Firefighters responded to an Emergency-911 call from the Meridian Police Department at about 6:30 a.m. and extinguished the fire within minutes.
Traffic signals at the Sixth Street-22nd Avenue and Eighth Street-22nd Avenue intersections were also out of order during the day. Portable stop signs were later erected to help guide traffic.
