Supervisor candidates campaign to the end

Candidates for Lauderdale County District 4 supervisor say they will continue to campaign into Tuesday all in an effort to attract the support of any undecided voters.
Running for the job are: Rickey Harris, a county patrolman; Melvin Wright, a retired hospital worker; John Nelson Jr., a private investigator; and Joe Norwood, a television cameraman.
The four hope to finish the unexpired term of former Supervisor Q.V. Sykes, who died in July. Sykes' wife, Laura, was appointed to temporarily fill the seat until a replacement is elected Tuesday.
Three of the four candidates spent the weekend knocking on doors and attending festivals and church activities. Harris was the only candidate who could not be reached for comment.
Norwood had a full campaign schedule Saturday, including appearances at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Binki's restaurant and the South Volunteer Fire Department.
He had the help of volunteers and his campaign manager, former WTOK-TV anchor and reporter Garrett Sheehan who is now a reporter for WAFF-TV in Huntsville, Ala.
Sheehan drives more than three hours to Meridian on the weekends to campaign for Norwood.
Nelson said his campaign workers spent the weekend knocking on doors and attending church festivals and that he will continue to campaign until the polls close.
He said volunteers for his campaign will shuttle seniors, and other voters who need assistance making it to the voting booth, back and forth to the polls.
Wright said volunteers with his campaign spent Saturday canvassing District 4 with flyers and Sunday visiting with neighborhood churchgoers. He said he'll have volunteers at the polls on Tuesday.
