The Queen City Fair opens in Meridian

Do you want to see a chain saw artist transform an ordinary log into a work of art? Or Hillbilly Bob cook Spam on his car engine? Or cowboys try to ride a wild bull for eight seconds?
Then jump in the car and head for the Queen City Fair, which opens today for a nine-day run at the Lauderdale County Agri-Center.
Len McRae, owner of Eventz Inc., and who is spearheading the event. He calls the second annual fair "a new family fun tradition."
The gates open at 4 p.m. today. Highlights include Midnight Madness from 9 p.m. to midnight tonight and Saturday in which fairgoers pay $12 for unlimited rides on the carnival midway.
On Saturday, events include a Senior Citizens Day promotion offering $2 off gate admission for seniors. U.S. Reps. Chip Pickering and Ronnie Shows will speak at 3 p.m.
On Wednesday night, the bands "Rhythm," "Ninth Hour" and "P33" will perform beginning at 6 p.m. And for $10, anyone attending "Youth Night" can ride all the rides as often as they like.
Other events include shows by chain saw artists and Hillbilly Bob.
New this year is the Purina Incredible Dog Show, where puppies perform acrobatic routines during three daily shows. And there's a petting zoo, where children can see everything from a pony to a pig.

Admission: $5 for adults, $3 for
children 6-12, free for children under 6. Parking is $2.

4 p.m.: Gates open. Chick-Fil-A presents Youth Night at the fair. Unlimited rides until 10 p.m., $10.
6 p.m.: Music by "Rhythm," "Ninth Hour" and "P33."

Thursday
4 p.m.: Gates open. Military Day 42 off admission with military identification.
6 p.m.: Bull Bash presented by Johnson Dodge-Kia. Followed immediately by chain saw
sculpture auction.
10 p.m.: Gates close.
Friday
4 p.m.: Gates open.
