Heidelberg blasts Knights; Newton rallies for win

Heidelberg got two touchdowns from Chris Thompson and got a excellent defensive game to beat West Lauderdale 36-7 on Friday night in Heidelberg.
The game was the Region 5-3A opener for both clubs. Heidelberg improves to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the region. West Lauderdale falls to 1-3 on the season.
Oilers head coach Larry McGill was pleased with his team's play.
Thompson scored on a 30-yard run in the second quarter and later added a four-yard run. He finished with 127 yards rushing.
Doug Ryan opened the scoring for the Oilers on a 15-yard run. The second Oiler touchdown came on a 10-yard pass from Michael Johnson to Raphael Jones.
Newton 27
Forest 21
Cornelius Caraway's 70-yard interception return in the fourth quarter proved to be the winning score in Newton's 27-21 win over Forest on Friday night in Forest.
The two teams entered the final quarter tied at 21-all. The win moves Newton to 3-1 on the season. Forest drops its second tough game in a row and is now 1-3 on the year.
The game was tied at 7-7 after one quarter. Travion Evans scored for Newton on a 22-yard pass from Ladarian Blaylock. Lucas Poole added the PAT.
Forest came back getting a 3-yard TD run by Prentiss Viviens. Gray LePrade kicked the PAT to tie the game at 7-7.
Newton went back up 13-7 on a 76-yard run by Caraway. Forest rebounded with Viviens scoring on a 6-yard run. He added the two-point conversion to break the tie and give the Bearcats a 15-13 lead which stood at halftime.
Noxubee County 54
Kosciusko 6
Two-time EMG Player of the Week in Noxubee County quarterback Omarr Conner accounted for three touchdowns in the Tigers' 54-6 romp past the Whippets. Noxubee County improves to 3-1 on the season. Conner ran for two touchdowns and threw for another to pace the Tigers.
Northside, Ala. 36
Sumter County 12
Northside piled up 280 yards in rushing to beat Sumter County 36-12 Friday night in Samantha, Ala.
Robert Ryder had 115 yards and four touchdowns to lead Northside, now 3-1. Sumter County falls to 1-3.
The Wildcats got an 81-yard touchdown pass from Reynundo Sturdivant to Christopher Walker. Codarian Wilson had a two-yard TD run for Sumter's first score.
Thomasville 24
Choctaw County, Ala. 7
Thomasville, ranked 10th in Class 4A in Alabama, rolled past Choctaw County 24-7 in a Region 1-4A game on Friday night in Butler.
Thomasville improves to 4-0 on the season. Choctaw County falls to 0-4.
Sumter Academy 27
South Choctaw Academy 7
Sumter Academy downed South Choctaw Academy 27-7 on Friday night in York, Ala. The Eagles improve to 3-1 on the season and are now 2-0 in AISA Region 2-AA. South Choctaw falls to 2-2 overall.
