South Choctaw Academy opens region play

The South Choctaw Academy Rebels evened their season record at 1-1 with a convincing 40-7 romp past Jackson Academy last week in Jackson, Ala.
This week, SCA heads south to Atmore to battle Escambia Academy for its Region 2-AA opener. Escambia lost 45-20 to Patrician last week in Butler in a Region 2-AA contest.
Quarterback Rob Dahlberg had a huge game for South Choctaw Academy completing 16 passes for 238 yards and four touchdowns against Jackson. The top Rebel targets were Dusty Johnson (5 receptions for 74 yards), Corey Johnson (3-for-25 yards), and Justin McInnis had two for 64 yards including a 59-yard TD.
The other TDs went to Jared Linder on a 19-yard pass, Jeffrey Mason on a 14-yarder, and Dusty Johnson on a four-yarder. Also scoring were Justin Bonner on a two-yard run and Dusty Johnson returned an interception 30 yards for a defensive touchdown.
The Rebel defense was paced by senior end Dustin Eaves who 10 tackles and a fumble recovery. Dusty Johnson added nine stops, two fumble recoveries and his interception return. Logan Johnson made seven tackles.
Patrician
at Southern
Patrician, fresh off a 45-20 rout of Escambia Academy, heads to Southern Academy on Friday night.
The Saints got a big game out of Allen Gibson who rushed for 144 yards on 17 carries and three touchdowns. He scored on runs of 2, 11 and 20 yards. He also added a 44-yard interception return on defense.
Russell Cheatham had three touchdowns for the Saints including a 75-yard punt return to go with 1 and 2-yard scoring runs.
Choctaw County
at UMS Wright
Choctaw County will head on the road for the first time this season heading to Mobile to battle UMS Wright in another Region 1-4A contest.
The Tigers dropped both games of its opening two-game homestand. This includes last week's disappointing 14-0 loss to Hillcrest-Evergreen in the Region 1-4A opener for both teams.
Choctaw's defense played well behind linebacker Merrill Johnson, and cohorts Matthew Neal, William Jackson, Terry Robinson and Brian Witherspoon.
Bayside Academy at
Southern Choctaw
Southern Choctaw moved to 2-0 on the season after blanking Excel 25-0 last week in a Region 1-2A opener for both clubs.
This week, the Indians celebrate their home opener when Bayside Academy visits the new Indian Stadium in Bollinger. This is Bayside's first year to play varsity football.
Southern Choctaw owns two State 2A titles from the 1998 and 1999 seasons under head coach Larry Boykin.
Livingston
at Holt
The Cougars need to get the offense in gear after suffering its second straight shutout loss (30-0) last week to Fayette in Livingston. The Cougars have yet to score a point this season in an 0-2 start under new coach Scottie "Scatter" Jones.
The game also marked the Region 1-4A opener for the Cougars
This week, Livingston travels to Holt for a non-region game. The team is led by quarterback Corey Speight and tight end LaRon Moss.
Aliceville
at Sumter County
Sumter County finally gets to play a game in York this Friday night when 3A power Aliceville comes to town.
Aliceville won the Alabama Class 3A championship in 2000 and are a favorite in the Region 1-3A this fall.
Sumter Academy
at Marengo Academy
The Eagles of Sumter Academy have one of its toughest assignments of the season when they head to defending AISA AA champion Marengo Academy this Friday near Sweetwater.
