Mize eyes the prize
The Mize Bulldogs have 33 players out this fall after going 12-1 in 2001. Kenny Robinson's team is one of the favorites in Class 1A in 2002. Expected to be a prime contributor to the team's success is 6-foot-3, 212-pound quarterback Jay Johnson.

Madison gets new coaches
Madison Central has named Jackie Suggett and Jeff Heath as the girls' and boys' basketball coaches respectively for the 2002-03 school year. They replace Shea Jackson and Bruce Robinson.
Both Suggett and Heath were assistant coaches at MCHS last year.
Suggett previously had stints at East Central High School and Brandon. She was an assistant at Madison for five years.
Heath moves up after one year as an assistant with the Jaguars. He knows his work is cut out for him.
Heath was an assistant to Archie Carlisle at Yazoo City from 1994-2000.

Familiar faces at Ridgeland
Among the members of the coaching staff at Ridgeland High School are several with area connections.
Former Philadelphia assistant football coach Pat Martin will be the powerlifting coach as well as defensive coordinator, former East Mississippi Community College football coach Jay Miller will be the track coach, and former Noxapater head football coach Kenny Burton will be the golf coach.

Moody at Madison Central
Former Philadelphia assistant football and head fast-pitch softball coach Brad Moody is now at Madison Central where he will coach the defensive line for the Jaguars football team.

Tartars looking for good year
The Taylorsville Tartars have 36 players out this fall under head coach Shannon White, a former head coach at West Lauderdale.

Wilkerson to launch program
Jennifer Wilkerson will be the slow-pitch softball coach at Ridgeland High School this fall. She begins the program at the first-year school with no seniors on the roster.
Wilkerson coached at Vicksburg for one year and Warren Central for three years before heading to Ridgeland.
Assisting Wilkerson will be Jerry Dupuy, a former East Central Community College and Mississippi State pitcher. Dupuy had been assistant baseball coach and softball coach for one year at Pearl.

A boys' high school basketball team is needed for the annual Vicksburg/Warren Central Basketball Classic, Nov. 13, 14, and 16. To enter the eight-team field, call Preston Wilson at 601-638-3372.

Bill "Moose" Perry returns to the diamond next spring as the baseball coach at Central Hinds Academy. In stints at Forest Hill, Byram, and Raymond, Perry compiled a total of 448 wins in 21 seasons. He won the Class AA state championship at Forest Hill in 1974.

Greer replaces Temple
Kelly Greer has been picked to replace Sam Temple as head baseball coach at Clinton. Greer, a native of Mendenhall, has been an assistant with the Arrows for five years.
As head coach at Mendenhall and Mount Olive, Greer's teams compiled a 65-55 record.
Temple left Clinton to become an assistant at Mississippi College. In his only season, the Arrows finished 25-8.
