Thursday night is the time when Mississippi high school stars get another chance to shine.
The Mississippi Sports Medicine All-Star girls and boys basketball games will be played at the A.E. Wood Coliseum on the campus of Mississippi College in Clinton.
The 38th annual girls game starts off the night at 6:30 p.m. with the 48th annual boys game to follow around 8 p.m. Tickets to the games are $5.00 per person.
The games will feature players from high schools around Mississippi competing for either the North or South teams.
The players reported on Monday and have been practicing together the past few days.
The North teams have been hosted by Todd Kimble and Chanda Rigby of Holmes Community College in Goodman and have been practicing at the college's gym.
The South teams have been hosted by Arthur Mays of Hinds Community College in Raymond and have been working out there.
The North girls lead the overall series 19-18 after winning last year's close 64-57 matchup. The North boys also won last year, beating the South 63-47.
The South boys, however, still own the overall series 31-16.
The South girls will be coached by Calvin Brown of East Marion and William Ingersoll of Lake. Barbara Hartzog of Provine and Shane Montgomery of Ripley will be coaching the North team.
Several athletes will be on the South team. Lenore Gray of Newton High will play as well as West Lauderdale's Jawanda Huggins. Britney Burks will represent Scott Central in the ballgame.
The North boys will be coached by David Robbins of Corinth and Jessie Terry of Ashland.
Ted Williams of Heidelberg and Jay Ladner of St. Stanislaus will be the coaches of the South team.
Joining Williams from Heidelberg High will be Derrick Turner and Jessie Jones.
Jamaal Martin will also play on the South boys team. Martin played under Lewis Lightsey at Northeast Lauderdale.
