Dalewood's dilemma

A contentious issue over whether a community wastewater collection and treatment system should be built in the Dalewood Shores Lake area in Lauderdale County gets a hearing next month before the Mississippi Public Service Commission. The May 7 hearing is the next opportunity for proponents and opponents to have their say.
If Dalewood is to reach its true potential, the issue of wastewater management has to be resolved. Smaller lots planned by developers simply cannot handle the load. Lauderdale County supervisors voted nearly a year ago much to the chagrin of a handful of current residents to create a Dalewood Sewer District and the county has received a $3.8 million loan from the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality for construction of a wastewater collection system and treatment facility.
The PSC hearing is another step in the process.
