TUPELO Services for Edwin M. Robbins were held Thursday in the W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors Jefferson Street Chapel with the Rev. Phillip Box officiating. Burial was in Lee Memorial Park.
Mr. Robbins, 81, of Shannon, died Monday, April 29, 2002, at Beverly/Broadmoor Healthcare in Meridian. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include two sons, John Robbins of Belgium and Richard Robbins and his wife, Rebecca Youngblood Robbins, of Meridian; a brother, Doc Robbins of Tupelo; and one grandson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Tera Robbins.
The family requests memorials be made to the Shannon United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1, Shannon, MS 38868.
JAMES L. HUMPHREYS
Retired
NEWTON Services for James L. "Sonny Boy" Humphreys will be held today at 10 a.m. at Barham Funeral Home Chapel of Newton County with the Rev. Sarah Windham officiating. Burial will be in Lawrence Cemetery.
Mr. Humphreys, 88, of Lawrence, died Thursday, May 2, 2002, at Newton Regional Hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Melba Humphreys of Lawrence; his children, Mary Everett of Decatur, Barbara Haralson and her husband, Billy, of Conehatta, Benny Humphreys and his wife, Lois and Jerry Humphreys and his wife, Betty, all of Lawrence, Thomas Humphreys and his wife, Sylvia, of Newton and Jimmy Dale Humphreys and his wife, Voncille, of Hattiesburg; a brother, Leonard Humphreys and his wife, Mildred, of Pineville, La.; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ander and Pauline Craven Humphreys; and a grandson, Danny Haralson.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
JAMES MONROE HAYWOOD
QUITMAN Services for James Monroe Haywood will be held today at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Stonewall with the Revs. John Merck and Albert McMullen officiating. Wright's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Haywood, 82, of Aberdeen, died Wednesday, May 1, 2002, at his home. Mr. Haywood was born to Wesley Monroe and Susie Maude Buckalew Haywood in Stonewall in Clarke County on April 6, 1920. He lived most of his life in Stonewall. In the Stonewall Baptist Church he was a deacon and served as choir leader and substitute teacher. He also served Calvary Baptist Church in Quitman as choir director. He was mayor of Stonewall for eight years, being the first elected mayor of the town. Prior to World War II he was a professional baseball player in the Texas League from 1939-1941. Following his military service in the Pacific theater in the 699th Signal Corps, 5th Army Air Corps from 1941-1945, he returned to his much-loved Stonewall. Following more than 50 years as a barber in Stonewall, he retired and moved to Aberdeen. He was a Mason, a member of the Lions Club, a former school board member for Stonewall schools, past president of the PTA and he served on various appointed committees for governors Waller, Finch and Winter.
Survivors include his wife, Hazel Pope Haywood; a son, Larry S. Haywood and his wife, Faye, of Aberdeen; a grandson, Stephen Haywood and his wife, Nancy, of Mobile, Ala.; a granddaughter, Katherine Haywood of West Chester, Penn.; and several nieces and nephews.
The family requests memorials be made to a church or favorite charity of choice.
Visitation will be held today at the church one hour prior to the service.
HURTIS F. VICK
DEMOPOLIS, Ala. Graveside services for Hurtis F. Vick will be held today at 11 a.m. at Demopolis Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Don Smith officiating. Kidd-Robbins Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Vick, 71, of Demopolis, died Wednesday, May 1, 2002, at his home.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy K. Vick of Demopolis; a daughter, Marie V. Singleton and her husband, Louie, of Demopolis; a son, Larry E. Vick Sr., and his wife, Carla, of Meridian; a stepsister, Noleen Tucker of Tallahassee, Fla.; two brothers, Bennie E. Vick of Fredricksburg, Va., and Delano Vick of Sims; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The family requests flowers and memorials be made to Rangeline Baptist Church, 5805 County Road 19, Linden, AL 36748.

PHILADELPHIA Graveside services for Exo Edward Johnson will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Johnson Family Cemetery in Neshoba County with the Rev. Charles Barnett officiating. McClain-Hays Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Johnson, 87, of Philadelphia, died Thursday, May 2, 2002, at Montfort Jones Memorial Hospital in Kosciusko. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Navies I. Johnson of Philadelphia; a daughter, Sylvia Franklin of Philadelphia; two sons, Daniel Johnson of Philadelphia and David Lawrence Johnson of Florence; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a brother, Coleman Johnson of Jackson.
Visitation will be held today from 5 p.m.-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Graveside services for George R. Fairchild Sr., will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Fairchild Cemetery with the Rev. Chuck Overby officiating. Stephens Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Fairchild, 68, of Meridian, died Wednesday, May 1, 2002, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include three sons, George R. Fairchild Jr., and his wife, Peggy, William Fairchild and his wife, Angela and Prentiss White, all of Meridian; nine grandchildren; and two brothers, John Ross Fairchild and Charles Henry Fairchild, both of Meridian.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Pat Fairchild; and his parents, Joe B. and Ruby Fairchild.
Visitation will be held today from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Shanks, 91, of Shubuta, died Monday, April 29, 2002, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center in Meridian.
Survivors include his wife, Lula Mae Shanks of Shubuta; two sons, Jesse Shanks of Aberdeen, Md., and John Shanks of New Orleans; six daughters, Mary Bryant, Pearl Bradshaw, Lillie Davis and Sarah Shanks, all of Chicago, Anne Pickens of Flint, Mich., and Ida L. Heard of Cincinnati; a sister, Kate Carr of Sacramento, Calif.; 30 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Otis Shanks; and a daughter, Diane Edwards.
The family requests memorials be made to stroke or cancer societies in his honor.
Visitation will be held today from 7 p.m.-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
