BOONEVILLE Donte Hill pitched his first complete game of the season and the visiting Lions of East Mississippi Community College exploded for five runs in the top of the seventh inning on the way to a 10-4 win over Northeast Mississippi Community College in junior college baseball action on Wednesday afternoon.
The win gave the Lions the sixth and final spot in the NJCAA Region 23 Division I Baseball Tournament set for Meridian Community College's Scaggs Field May 9-12.
EMCC forced Wednesday's one-game playoff by sweeping Northeast in Scooba on Saturday.
Hill, who hadn't gone past the sixth inning all season, went the full nine innings, striking out nine, while allowing seven hits and walking only three.
J.D. Harbour ripped a key three-run homer in the big seventh inning to help the Lions turn a tight 4-2 lead into a 9-2 advantage.
Josh Snider was 3-for-4, with a double, triple and two RBIs, while Drew Powell was 3-for-4 with two doubles and Matt Minchew had a single and double. Kent Lewis scored three times out of the No. 9 spot for the 17-29 Lions.
Projected first-round matchups for the six-team, double-elimination tournament which begins a week from today, have East Mississippi facing Jones, Meridian meeting Mississippi Delta and Delgado taking on Gulf Coast.
