Library week under way
The Meridian/Lauderdale County Public Library will celebrate National Library Week through Saturday. Activities this week include a book sale, culminating with special children's activities on Saturday. The library is at 2517 Seventh St.
Quitman to host job fair
A job fair will take place from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday at the National Guard Armory in Quitman. Twenty employers are registered for the fair.

MHS Band Boosters to meet
A meeting of the Meridian High School Band Boosters Association is set for 7 p.m. April 25 in the new MHS Band Hall. The annual MHS band banquet, uniforms and transportation fees for the 2002-2003 school year will be the focus of the meeting. Parents of ninth-grade students at Kate Griffin and Northwest Junior High Schools are encouraged to attend.

MLT holds Spring Variety Shop
The Meridian Little Theatre Guild will host its Spring Variety Shop from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. April 26 and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. April 27. Household goods, furniture, lamps, dishes, appliances, linens and books will be on sale. If you want to donate items for the sale, pick-up service is available. The theatre is on Highway 39 North. MPD holds Relay for Life fund-raiser
The Meridian Police Department's Relay for Life team will sell pulled pork plates April 26 in Dumont Plaza in downtown Meridian. Plates are $5 and will be available from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Delivery of 10 or more plates is available. Fax orders to 484-6812. All proceeds go to the American Cancer Society.
Sumter Welcome Center celebrates 20 years
The public is invited to help the Sumter Welcome Center celebrate 20 years of hospitality April 26. Festivities will include a program and open house from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. The center is on Interstate 20/59 at the Cuba, Ala., exit.
Deadline nears for LAWS class
The Lauderdale Association of Women Shooters class will take place April 20, at 9 a.m., at Bonita Lakes Mall Meeting Place, and April 27, at 8 a.m., at the Firing Range.
The class covers gun safety, selection, care and legal responsibilities and is conducted by NRA certified instructors. Those attending will have an opportunity to practice shooting skills once a month as member of LAWS.

March of Dimes WalkAmerica April 27

Retiree health fair set for April 30
The 4th Annual Retiree Information and Health Fair is set for April 30, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., at Union Station on Front Street in downtown Meridian.
Education seminars and speakers will include Dr. Eric J. Pearson from the Rush Pain Treatment Center; Maj. Ward Calhoun from the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department; and Donnie Waldron from Mr. Discount Drugs. Free health screenings will include blood pressure, bone density screening, cholesterol test and blood sugar tests.
There is a $2 fee. Reservations are required and seating is limited. Lunch will be provided. Call 484-6841 to register.
Kiwanis schedules barbecue
The Kiwanis Club of Meridian will hold its annual barbecue May 1, from 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., at the Farmer's Market next to Union Station in downtown Meridian. Plates of pulled pork, beans, cole slaw, bread and soft drinks are $6. All proceeds will help support the club's charitable projects.

Meridian Swim Association plans rummage sale
The Meridian Swim Association holds its Annual Team Rummage Sale on May 4. The sale will be at the old location of Bonnie Jeans ( next to Rite Aid in Broadmoor Mart Shopping Center) from 7 a.m.-noon. If you would like to contribute items, contact Nicole Engledow at 693-5496 to give your tax deductible donation of clothes, furniture, appliances and other items.
McRae's hosts May charity sale
McRae's Department Store is hosting its May Charity Sale to benefit local charities, Relay for life Teams and nonprofit organizations from 6 a.m.-10 a.m. May 4. The public is invited to attend.
Admission tickets can be purchased now until the day of the event from charity volunteers for $5. Tickets will be available the day of the event at McRae's or can be bought in advance from any McRae's sales associate.
All proceeds from ticket sales will benefit charities and nonprofit organizations. If any charity or nonprofit organization would like to participate call, McRae's for details at 484-7800.
Silverleaf Manor sponsors barbecue
Silverleaf Manor celebrates spring with a country barbecue on April 25. Entertainment will begin at 3 p.m., with Barry Germany, pianist. Peewee Grayson will play the guitar and sing country music. Serv-Safe classes set for May
The Clarke County Extension Service will sponsor a Serv-Safe class on May 6 and May 13 at the Multi-Purpose Building in Quitman.
The Mississippi Department of Health and the National Restaurant Association mandate that any establishment where food is served must have this training.
