Mosley, Huggins sign basketball deals with MCC

Two of the top senior girl basketball players in Lauderdale County signed scholarships with Meridian Community College on Monday.
MCC head coach and athletic director Hilary Allen announced the signings of Meridian High School point guard Stephanie Mosley and West Lauderdale forward JaWanda Huggins to the Lady Eagles' program during an afternoon press conference.
MCC is coming off a 29-3 season. The Lady Eagles finished third in the nation in scoring.
Mosley was Coach Donald Shirley's second leading scorer this season for the 15-13 Lady Wildcats. She averaged 15.1 points per game and passed out 5.2 assists.
Mosley, the daughter of Pam and Stevie Mosley, was academically qualified to play at a senior college but chose stay close to home.
As a bonus, Mosley will get to team up again with rising MCC sophomore and the team's top scorer in Cantea Brown. The pair helped lead Meridian High to the Class 5A State finals in 2001.
Huggins was a key member behind West Lauderdale's drive to the Class 3A girls championship game last March. The Lady Knights went 33-5 and Huggins was the team's second leading scorer at 12.2 points per game.
The 5-foot-10 Huggins also pulled down 7.7 rebounds and was named to the All-Division 5-3A team.
Lady Knights head coach Jody Hurst says Huggins will provide leadership and bring a defensive presence to the Lady Eagles.
Huggins, the daughter of Bishop Dennis Huggins and Pastor Pearl Huggins, is another strong academic student. with a 4.0 gpa.
Huggins will miss playing with her sister J.J, who may be a Dandy Dozen player again next season for the Lady Knights. She'll also miss Hurst.
Also signing with the Lady Eagles are April Mcelroy of Terry High School and Tyree Brown of Pearl High School.
The 5-foot-9 McElroy averaged 15 points and 11 rebounds as a senior, while Brown hit for 19.6 points and 8.7 rebounds.
