Workers from the Mississippi Department of Transportation will begin resurfacing part of Highway 19 South in Lauderdale County this month.
Ken Wallace, district engineer, said Wednesday that work to prepare almost 10 miles of Highway 19 between Vimville and the Alabama state line should begin in three to four weeks.
A new asphalt surface will then be applied.
Weather permitting, the project should be completed in July.
The Mississippi Transportation Commission awarded the project's $1.7 million contract last week to APAC-Mississippi of Jackson.
Wallace said the road will remain open, but motorists may encounter lane changes.
In other MDOT news, plans to replace weigh scales on the east-bound and westbound sides of Interstate 59 at Kewanee Road have been postponed. The project had been scheduled for completion in March 2004.
Wallace said Wednesday the federal government has asked for a review of the project designs, which will delay completion until September or October 2004.
