Aldridge, Powell

Christy Anne Powell and John Thomas Aldridge were united in marriage Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001, in a 5 p.m. ceremony at Fifteenth Avenue Baptist Church in Meridian. Officiating the double-ring ceremony were the Revs. Jason Bird and John Ward.
Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Dale Powell of Ward, Ala., and Dr. and Mrs. John Edward Aldridge of Brandon.
The bride is the granddaughter of Lorene Chaney of Hickory and the late Cobert B. Chaney; Della Powell of Ward and the late Jimmie M. Powell.
The bridegroom is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene T. Thomas of Brandon; and Mr. and Mrs. John E. Aldridge of Jackson.
Music for the ceremony was provided by Sidney Covington, pianist; Greer Goldman, organist; Bennett Randman, cellist; Donna Graham and Amy Fordham, vocalists.
Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a full-length gown of white satin and tulle with a cathedral-length train. The tulle overlay was adorned with lace accented with iridescent sequins and pearls. She wore a headpiece of pearl rosettes and iridescent beads attached to a fingertip-length veil.
The sweetheart neckline of the dress emphasized an antique pendant of diamonds worn by the bridegroom's paternal great-grandmother and grandmother in their 1917 and 1937 weddings.
On her wrist, she wore an antique gold locket worn by her maternal grandmother and mother in their 1945 and 1971 weddings. The bride carried a bouquet of white calla lilies and white roses bound by satin ribbon and a small white Bible carried by her mother in her wedding.
Amy Varnon served as matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Jennifer Colburn, Nancilynn Dickey, sister of the bridegroom, Lee Kate Justice and Wanda Ragan.
Honorary bridesmaids were Hannah Etheridge, Donna Graham, Christie Granec and Amy Hammett. Jessica Bird was flower girl.
The father of the bridegroom served as best man. The groomsmen were Ryan Aldridge, Scotty Dickey, brother-in-law of the bridegroom, Tom Hines and Stephen Powell, brother of the bride.
Ushers were Patrick Emanuel, John Pope, C.K. Sample III and Robert Mullins. Hudson Mullins was ring bearer.
Program attendants were Katie Rew and Melanie Aldridge. Guest book attendant was Allison Harper.
A reception followed at the Meridian Little Theatre. The guests were entertained with a jazz combo of pianist, Jeneane Mixon and drummer, Jeff Colburn. Serving at the reception were Lara Ellen Powell, Angela Aldridge and Catherine Hines. Rose petal attendant was Andee Schuurman.
After a honeymoon in the U.S. and British Virgin Islands, the couple resides in Meridian.
