Trojans run rule Tigers

The Northeast Lauderdale Trojans improved to 4-1 in Division 5-4A baseball action with a 14-4 win over Mendenhall Tuesday at Northeast. Adam Leister (2-3) tossed a five-inning complete game, striking out five. Cory Chance had a single and a triple for Northeast, 8-10 overall. Jason Pritchett and Chad Brunson both had a double with J.R. Smith also getting a hit for the Trojans. Northeast returns to action Friday at Florence at 7 p.m.
Newton County 13
Choctaw Central 1
The Cougars improved to 10-7 with the Division 5-3A win at Choctaw. A six-run third frame padded a 2-0 Newton County lead.
The Cougars finished the contest with 15 hits with 12 different players getting at least one hit. Mylan Anderson had a single and a home run and Robby Carey and Adam Bout both had a pair of singles, while Josh Avant and Colby Amis both had a double for Newton County.
Bout (2-1) struck out two and allowed two hits in getting the win. Tyler Williamson took the loss. Marty Briscoe had a single and a double for the Warriors. Choctaw Central had four hits and committed four errors. Newton County returns to action Friday at Heidelberg.
Union 13
Pisgah 1
The Yellowjackets stung the Dragons for a 12-run Division 6-1A win Tuesday at Pisgah. Wes Henry tossed a two-hitter in the five-inning contest, striking out six.
Union, 8-7, had only six hits with Henry collecting a double. Pisgah committed five errors. Union's next game is Friday at 7 p.m. at Pelahatchie.
