Northeast defeats Southeast, 8-2
The Northeast Lauderdale Trojans took an 8-2 win over the Southeast Lauderdale Tigers in prep soccer action Thursday.
The game was tied 2-2 at the half, but the Trojans caught fire in the second half scoring six goals and shutting out the Tigers.
Leading scorers for the Trojans were Jorge Corrals with three goals and J.R. Smith with two.
Ryan Sweet, Matt Moore, and Daniel Huntley each scored one goal for the Trojans.
Northeast ups its record to 10-7 as they look ahead to an important district road trip to West Jones today.

Patrician drops pair to Warrior
EUTAW, Ala. The visiting Lady Saints of Patrician Academy dropped a tough contest to Warrior Academy by the score of 39-34 on Thursday night, while the boys fell to WA by the score of 47-35.
Katie Cannon scored 23 points to lead the Warrior girls, while Chasity Etheridge led PA with 15 points and nine rebounds and Brooke Norris scored eight points and dished out six assists. Warrior moved to 12-1 with the win, while Patrician fell to 10-3.
The Warrior boys used 15 points from Heath Barnes to move to 14-1 on the season with the victory, while Hunter Campbell led the 11-5 Saints with 11 points.
Next up for Patrician Academy is a Tuesday matchup with arch-rival South Choctaw Academy. The junior high games tip off at 4 p.m.
Patrician's Saturday afternoon game with Pickens Academy was canceled.

Lady Bulldogs take 4-0 district win
The Clarkdale girls won 4 – 0 on Tuesday night in a district game over the Richland High School Rangers.
Leading scorer Angela Woodall scored twice in the first half, assisted by Tara Smith. Bethany Spidle scored again for the Lady Bulldogs late in the first half, assisted by Ashley Peavy. Jacqueline Lassiter scored early in the second half to secure the victory.
Thanks to a strong defense lead by Junior Renae Pickard, Richland was only allowed 3 shots on goal.

Itawamba takes two from EMCC
FULTON The Lady Indians of homestanding Itawamba took a 62-42 win over East Mississippi Community College in MACJC North Division play on Thursday night, while the EMCC men dropped a 72-54 decision to ICC.
Donna Franklin led the Lady Lions of EMCC with 15 points. Next up for 3-10 EMCC is a 6 p.m. division home game against Holmes on Tuesday.
Reshard Alonza pumped in 17 points to lead the Lions on Thursday night, but it wasn't enough as the Indians took the 18-point win.
The 3-9 Lions also got 6-of-6 free-throw shooting from Charles Braxton, while Josh Steele had eight points. The EMCC and Holmes men are set to top off at 8 p.m.

Statesmen roll past Southern Arkansas
CLEVELAND Delta State University (12-3; GSC 5-1) shot 50 percent from the floor and 38-percent from three-point land enroute a 93-65 win over the Southern Arkansas University (7-7; GSC 2-3) here Thursday night.
Delta State held a 30-27 lead at the 4:27 mark of the first half but went on a 15-4 run to take a 45-31 lead at intermission. Megan Teel had the hot hand for the Lady Statesmen with 18 first half points that included making 7-of-11 from the field and four three pointers. DSU scored the first nine points of the second half to build a 54-31 lead and never look back.
Teel made 10-of-15 shots and 6-of-10 three pointers to lead DSU with 26 points, also handing out six assists. Tasha Watt added 18 followed by Janna Lyons with 15 and Amber Gean with 12. Watt also led the Lady Statesmen with eight rebounds followed by Shelly Campbell with seven.
Delta State takes the weekend off before hosting Harding University at 6 p.m. on Monday.

Lady Golden Eagles down South Florida
HATTIESBURG Anchored by a career-high 19-point performance by Tierra Lassiter, the Southern Mississippi Lady Eagles pulled away and defeated visiting South Florida, 78-56, Thursday at the Reed Green Coliseum.
The Lady Eagle defense stepped up in the late stages of the game as Southern Miss outscored the Lady Bulls 23-1 in the final seven minutes of play to get the win.
The win was the first in Conference USA play for the Lady Eagles, as they improved to 8-9 overall and 1-3 in C-USA. South Florida fell to 11-6 overall and 1-3.
Along with Lassiter, La'Tasha Sumerall and Lana Lewis each scored in double-figures, scoring 16 and 12 points, respectively. Defensively, Sonja Brown led Southern Miss with four blocks, bringing her within one block of the career record of 73.
Southern Miss returns to action Sunday as it hosts UAB. Tip off is set for 2 p.m.

UWA women move GSC mark to 6-0
COLUMBUS The University of West Alabama Lady Tigers jumped out to a
37-21 first-half lead, behind the strong post play of junior CaMeshia Pete on the way to a 70-49 Gulf South Conference victory over the Mississippi University of Women on Thursday night.
Former Neshoba Central standout Tausha Evans paced the Lady Tigers tallying 15 points and four steals. Pete chipped in with her first double-double of the season, scoring 12 points and ripping down a game-high 11 rebounds. Senior guard Thelma Hearn also poured in 12 points, dishing out four assists. Lori Weber and Nikki Jones pitched in with nine and seven points respectively.
Sophia Byrd led the MUW charge with 11 points, including five rebounds.
Chandra Beckwith chipped in with eight points, while teammates Jessica Williams and Mandi Porter poured in six points apiece.
West Alabama (13-2, 6-0 GSC) returns to the friendly confines of Pruitt Hall on Monday, Jan. 21 when they host the Chargers of the University of Alabama-Huntsville. Tip off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
