Three local teams have plans for Birmingham

Three area schools Northeast Lauderdale, West Lauderdale, and Neshoba Central will be among five Mississippi girls' basketball teams playing five from Alabama in the Mississippi/Alabama Challenge at Birmingham, Ala., Dec. 27-29 at John Carroll High School.
The Lady Bucs of Hoover were 4-4 after eight games with three of their losses coming in a tournament at Cleveland, Tenn. Coach Lori Elgin's 10-girl roster has only two seniors.
The Lady Rebels of Vestavia Hills are led by coach Fran Braasch, who has over 400 career wins to her credit.

Lady Warriors win Ackerman tournament
The Nanih Waiya Lady Warriors defeated Eupora, Winona, and Ackerman to win the Ackerman tournament last week.
The Lady Warriors knocked off Carthage 68-60 Tuesday to improve to 8-4.
The Lady Warriors host Sturgis on Friday before playing an afternoon contest at Union Saturday.

Seven-player team finally gets win
PASCAGOULA With only seven players on its roster, one of the state's smallest schools finally won a basketball game.
The Resurrection Catholic School Eagles recently beat Salem 53-43. It was the Eagles' first victory in two years. The school plays in Class 1A.
The Eagles are now 1-11 and will host Puckett on Friday.
Coach Robert Griffin said his team is playing much better this year and players' attitudes have improved.
I can honestly say, this year's team will never give up,'' he said. Even if they score just 18 points in a game, they will never give up. When that happens, you eventually will get it (a win).''

Hawkins back at Bayou after close call
Bayou Academy boys' and girls' basketball coach Wade Hawkins returned to the court Monday night for the first time since Nov. 19.
On Nov. 24, a tornado destroyed his home and seriously injured his eight-year-old son, Alex, who is still hospitalized in Jackson.
Wade Hawkins is confined to a wheelchair after suffering cut tendons in his right foot.

Lamar boys making progress
New Lamar School boys coach Tristan Howell says his team is making good progress.
The losses were to Howell's alma mater in Leake Academy, Jackson Prep and Oak Hill. Lamar lost to Central Hinds handily on Tuesday night
Lamar hosts district rival Manchester today and will also play in the East Central Tournament on Dec. 26-29.
