    Roundup: A tough night for Lauderdale County teams

    It was a tough night for Lauderdale County teams on the road in prep football action.
    The Clarkdale Bulldogs dropped a 21-15 decision to Seminary; Northeast Lauderdale lost a 44-30 Region 5-4A contest at Magee, and Southeast Lauderdale lost 17-13 at Carthage.
    Seminary 21,
    Clarkdale 15
    Seminary had to hold off a second half Clarkdale rally.
    Alvin Moffite put Clarkdale on the scoreboard on a two-yard run. Chris Sirven's kick made it 14-7, Semimary.
    In the fourth quarter, Clarkdale scored when Justin Culpepper threw a 18-yard TD pass to Larry Lewis. Thomas Walter ran in the two-point conversion to make it 21-15.
    The loss drops Clarkdale to 2-2. Seminary improves to 3-1.
    Clarkdale finished with 150 yards rushing and 105 passing. Thomas Walter led the ground game for the Bulldogs with 76 yards on nine carries.
    Culpepper completed seven of 18 passes for 105 yards with two interceptions.
    Magee 44,
    NE Lauderdale 30
    Magee upened Northeast Lauderdale in Magee 44-30 on Friday night. The game was the Region 5-4A opener for both teams.
    The loss was Northeast's first after three wins. Magee improves to 2-2.
    Carthage 17,
    SE Lauderdale 13
    Carthage pulled out a home win in the Region 5-3A opener for both teams. The loss drops Southeast to 2-2 on the season.
    Southeast broke out to a 7-0 lead on an 11-yard run by Ben Reed. Hood's kick was good.
    Carthage came back with two touchdowns in the second quarter to go up 14-7. They added a 29-yard field goal in the third quarter to extend the lead to 17-7.
    Southeast cut it to 17-13 following another 11-yard TD run by Reed. The kick failed.
    Nanih Waiya 28,
    Noxapater 21
    Nanih Waiya scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to beat Noxapater 28-21 on Friday night.
    Trailing 21-14, Nanih Waiya's Trevor Stokes passed 16 yards to Brent Blackwell. The PAT by Blake Jernigan tied it at 21-21.
    The goahead score came on a three-yard run by Cecil Johnson. Jernigan's kick made it 28-21.
    Scoring for Noxapater were Kevin Rush on a 84-yard TD run. DeAngelo Carter had a 53-yard TD run and then later he threw a 69-yard TD pass to Detrick Bates. Mario White had a two-point conversion run.
    Union 32,
    Thomaston 6
    The Union Yellow Jackets picked up a win against Thomaston on Friday night.
    Sumter Academy 28,
    Patrician 0
    Sumter Academy blanked Patrician 28-0 Friday night in Alabama Independant School Association action.
    Scoring for Sumter were Shane Martin who had a touchdown run and pass. He completed four of nine passes for 122 yards.
    Chase Lacoste rushed 16 times for 67 yards.
    Wide receiver
    Chase Schroder caught two passes for 87 yards including a 67-yard TD pass from Martin.
    Winston Academy 47,
    Benton 7
    Winston Academy roasted the Benton Raiders 47-7 on Friday night in Louisville.
    The win moves Winston to 3-1 on the season.
    Winston jumped out to a 21-0 lead following touchdowns from Jay McMillin, one-yard run; and two TD runs of eight and five yards by Scott Peterson.
    Benton got a 76-yard interception return by Chip Butler to make it 21-7 after the kick.
    Winston came back with 20 points in the third quarter to blow the game open. Lenny Boatner scored on a 29-yard run, Kenneth Metts had a 26-yard interception return while John Fulcher had a 15-yard run.
    The final score came on Peterson's 15-yard run. Peterson finished with 164 yards on 17 carries. Winston had 373 yards total in rushing. Boatner added 136 off nine carries.
    Southern Academy 35,
    So. Choctaw Academy 0
    Southern Academy kept its season-long scoring streak going in AISA action in Greensboro, Ala., on Friday night. Southern smashed South Choctaw Academy from Silas 35-0.
    The win moves SA to 5-0 on the season. They have yet to give up a point this season.
    Southern Choctaw falls to 1-4.
    Wayne Academy 41
    Newton Academy y
    The Newton Academy Generals were looking for their first win against Wayne Academy Friday night under the direction of Coach Brian Simms.
    It wasn't to be, however, as the Jaguars claimed a 41-14 decision.
    The Jaguars struck on their first possession, when Matt Brown carried from 12 yards for the first score. Jaret Duvall added the extra point to make it 7-0 with 6:22 left in the first quarter.
    Newton Academy added the next score, when Blake Hedrick scored from two yards out. Chris Bounds added the extra point to knot the score at 7-7.
    Early in the second quarter, Cory Cocharn plunged in from two yards out to put the Jaguars back on top 13-7. Jaret Duvall knocked the extra point through to make it 14-7. Steven Wood scampered 40 yards for the next Wayne Academy score with 7:05 left in the half. Duvall's PAT was blocked by Josh Kennedy.
    Wayne Academy got one more opportunity to score late in the second when Steven Wood found a wide open Cory Cochran for a 50-yard touchdown pass. Jaret Duvall pulled through again with the extra point to make it 27-7 at the halftime intermission.
    Starting the second half, Wayne Academy held the Generals to three and out. The Jaguars went back to work with great field position, starting from the Newton County 30 yard line. Three plays later, Jacob Ferguson called his own number, and scored from eighteen yards out. Duvall added the extra point to make it 34-7. The final score came with 5:08 left in the game, when Matt Brown carried the ball 80 yards to the end zone to make the score 41-7. Duvall's PAT was blocked again by Willie Bounds. The 0-4 Generals travel to Heidelberg next week, and 4-0 Wayne Academy will look to go 5-0 against Kemper Academy.
    Newton High 26
    Forest 22
    NEWTON The Newton High School Tigers evened their record to 2-2 on the season with a 26-22 victory over Forest here Friday night.
    Newton scored first in the initial quarter on a 60-yard run by Travaone Evans. The extra point try was no good and the Tigers led 6-0.
    Forest rallied with a touchdown of its on. Braxton Boone scored on a 30-yard run. Julio Alvaree kicked the extra point and Forest led 7-6 with 8:39 left in the first quarter.
    Newton retook the lead when Marquis Poole scored on an eight-yard run. The try for two was no good and the Tigers led 12-7 with 6:33 left in the period.
    Forest came back when Derrick Qualls scored on five-yard TD pass from Trey Clark. Alvaree kicked the extra point and Forest led 14-12 with 36 seconds left in the period.
    Forest struck again on a 28-yard field goal by Alvaree to go up 17-12 with 4:30 left in the second quarter. That's how it stood a the half.
    Forest took the second half kickoff and drove to the Newton three. Newton dug in and Forest had to settle for a 20-yard Alvaree field. The Bearcats led 20-12 with 8:36 left in the third quarter.
    Newton struck on a one-yard QB sneak by Laderrian Blaylock. The try for two failed and Newton trailed 20-18 with 46 seconds left in the third quarter.
    Forest drove down to the Newton 26 in the fourth quarter where the Tigers' defense held on downs. The Tigers took over on downs on their own 22, and six plays later, scored on a 66-yard pass from Blaylock to Bobby Lindsey. Evans scampered in for the two-point conversion to put Newton up 26-20 with 1:24 left in the game.
    Newton took a safety with 34 seconds left with punter Lucas Pool ran out of the back of the end zone.
