OBITUARIES FOR WEDNESDAY, OCT. 3, 2001

GORDON ELIJAH GREENWOOD
Services for Gordon Elijah Greenwood will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Paul United Methodist Church with the Rev. Philip Heidelberg officiating. Burial will be in Meridian Memorial Cemetery with Berry and Gardner Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Greenwood, 68, died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2001 at Rush Foundation Hospital. He was born on May 5, 1933, to the late Mr. Rutherford B. Greenwood and Lela Gordon Greenwood in Bailey. He attended Pine Grove School in Bailey and united with Pine Grove Baptist Church at an early age. He later joined St. Paul United Methodist Church in Meridian and remained a very active and dedicated member until his death.
As a young man, Mr. Greenwood married Mary Edna Cole and to this union was born four children, one daughter and three sons. He was an industrious man who took delight in working and accomplishing his goals. He was never at a loss for words in extolling his accomplishments. He worked hard in many capacities throughout his life.
Mr. Gordon worked as a school bus driver, a carpet and tile installer, bartender, and manager of the Esperanza Lounge and Elks Metropolitan Lodge. He also worked for Berry and Gardner Funeral Home and was an avid gardener.
Mr. Gordon served in the armed forces during the Korean and Vietnam conflicts and was a member of the Army Reserves for 30 years. He was the very first civilian hired at the Naval Air Station Meridian.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Greenwood of Meridian; his daughter, Patrice Greenwood of Kokomo, Ind.; three sons, Gordon D. Greenwood and his wife, Nina, of Oakland, Calif., Eric Greenwood and his wife, Vickie, and Shawn Greenwood, all of Atlanta; three sisters, Johnnie Stancil of Meridian, Dorothy Cook and her husband, Grady, of Vallejo, Calif., and Leanna Lay of St. Louis; two brothers, Bennie Greenwood and his wife, Diane, and Willie Greenwood, all of Vallejo; seven grandchildren, Azzleeta Bynum, Patrick Bynum, Elijah Greenwood, Davida Bynum, Kenneth Greenwood, Velecity Greenwood and Jamaica Greenwood; the Gordon family matriarch and very special aunt, Janie Gordon Snowden; and several other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Thursday from 5 p.m.-6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Arrangements were incomplete at E. E. McDonald Funeral Home for Arthur Lee McDonald, 55, of Collinsville, who died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2001 at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center.
