State Games a good draw

By Staff
June 20, 2001
Young, and a few not so young, athletes from across Mississippi are between events today, mid-session in the 10th annual State Games of Mississippi. The second, and final, weekend of the games actually begins Thursday.
Billed as "Mississippi's Amateur Sportsfest for Athletes of All Ages," State Games is a good draw for Meridian something of a tourism and economic development tool. The games also offer exciting competitions in an array of sports events from baseball to volleyball with a lot in between.
Judging from results of the first weekend, some fine performances are in store before the games wrap up Sunday.
The 10th anniversary represents a milestone for State Games. The games are now an accepted part of summer in Mississippi.
We congratulate all of the people and sponsors who have made this edition of State Games an event worthy of note. They, the athletes and their families who travel to Meridian, and home-grown competitors have all contributed to the attraction of very positive attention.
