Summer school renovations

Meridian School District officials will spend about $5 million this summer for renovation and repair projects at a number of city schools. Funding is coming from a variety of sources.
It is good to see the renovations taking place as new equipment replaces older, damaged and outdated equipment. It is also important to note that school officials did not have to borrow money to pay for the work. Other sources have been tapped.
Unfortunately, over the long term, many other needs remain unmet due to a shortage of money. Sooner or later, Meridian voters will be faced again with a bond issue for school construction and improvements.
The needs of public education never end. Eventually, funding will have to be found.
