Notice canceled
The boil water notice that was placed into effect for customers of Central Water Association in Philadelphia House Well Division on May 25, has been canceled. Two consecutive samples have been tested and cleared by the Mississippi State Department of Health
Boil water notice issued
A boil water notice has been placed into effect for customers of Central Water Association in Philadelphia North Pearl River Well Division. A failed service pump caused loss of water and pressure over much of the system. Repairs have been made and water pressure should be restored.

VFW Post #3996 hosts fish fry
Frank Foster VFW Post #3996 will host a charity fish fry Saturday at 10 a.m., on the patio of the Kendallwood Craft Building in Highland Park. The building is located next to the Dentzel Carousel. Sandwiches will be on sale for $2. Meals with hush puppies, french fries and cole slaw are $3.50.
Cruisin' event set for Father's Day
Vintage Wheels Club and Hemmings Motor News will host a Father's Day road cruise Sunday with the theme "The Old Man and His Old Car." The event is open to people who own pre-1970 cars. There is no entrance fee and prizes will be awarded.
The event begins at 1 p.m. at Queen City Nursing Center, 1201 28th Ave. The cars will next be at Silver Leaf Manor, 4555 35th Ave., at 2:30 p.m. The caravan then travels to Beverly Healthcare in Broadmoor, 4728 Highway 39 North, at 4 p.m.
The public is invited to attend all stops.
Relay hosts blood drive
The first annual "Relay for Life" blood drive will be held June 18, from 1 p.m.-8 p.m, in the Temple Theatre Ballroom. Members of Relay for Life teams will recruit blood donors to help assure there will be blood for cancer patients when it is needed.
Donors will receive a T-shirt and the team that recruits the most donors will receive a plaque. The public is urged to attend.
Silver Leaf to hold open house
Silver Leaf Manor will hold an open house June 21 from 3 p.m.-7 p.m. The event is an opportunity for the Meridian community to tour Silver Leaf and ask questions. There will be fun, food and give-away prizes, including a free night's stay at the Beau Rivage Casino located in Biloxi. For information, call Elizabeth Bridwell at 483-4566.
Seniors invited to public hearing
The East Central Planning and Development District/Area Agency on Aging will hold a public hearing about aging programs June 28, at 10 a.m., in the auditorium of the Newton City Hall.
The purpose of the hearing is to inform people about senior programs and services available in Clarke, Jasper, Kemper, Lauderdale, Leake, Neshoba, Newton, Scott and Smith counties.
The goals and objectives for fiscal year 2002 will be discussed and an update of current activities will be presented.
