    OBITUARIES FOR SUNDAY, MARCH 25, 2001

    Retired
    COLUMBUS Services for Fred Price Jr. will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Fairview Baptist Church with the Revs. Mickey Dalrymple and Steve Lammons officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens with Lowndes Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
    Mr. Price, 71, of Columbus, died Friday, March 23, 2001, at his home. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1950-1954.
    Survivors include his wife, Mae Price of Columbus; a son, Kelley Price of Columbus; a daughter, Anna Eaves of Butler, Ala.; a sister, Mildred Jaynes of Marion, Ill.; and five grandchildren.
    The family requests memorials be made to the Mississippi Baptist Mission Service Corp., the Baptist Building, Jackson.
    Visitation will be today from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
    DR. SLAYTON ALVIN EVANS JR.
    CHAPEL HILL, N.C. A memorial service for Dr. Slayton Alvin Evans Jr. will be held Sunday, April 1, at Community Church of Chapel Hill. Fellowship will be held following the service. Walker's Funeral Home of Chapel Hill is in charge of arrangements.
    Dr. Evans, 57, of Chapel Hill, died Saturday, March 24, 2001. He was raised in Meridian and was employed as professor of chemistry with the University of North Carolina since 1974. He was a member of Community Church of Chapel Hill.
    Survivors include his wife, Helen C. Evans; his mother, Corine Thompson; a son, Slayton A. Evans III; a daughter, Amy Rebecca Evans; a brother, Albert Evans; a sister, Patricia Dillard; five stepdaughters, Rachel, Erin, Becky, Mary and Sarah.
    The family requests memorials be made to Triangle Hospice, 1804 Martin Luther King Parkway, Suite 112, Durham, NC 27707.
    JAMES EDWARD PETTY
    Educator
    CARTHAGE Services for James Edward "Jim" Petty will be held today at 2 p.m. at Carthage United Methodist Church with burial in Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery in Rose Hill. Wilcox Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
    Mr. Petty, of Carthage, died Friday, March 23, 2001, at the Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. He was a native of Lauderdale County and a member of Carthage United Methodist Church, where he served as a Sunday school teacher, lay speaker and leader. He also served as chairman of the administrative board, PPR Committee chairman and on the building committee. He was a former Mason. He attended Meridian Community College, University of Southern Mississippi and Mississippi State University with advanced study at the University of Alabama. He was past president of Carthage Rotary Club, served on the ECCC Board of Trustees, Leake County Chamber of Commerce and Association of School Administrators.
    Mr. Petty previously taught Mississippi history at Northwest Junior High in Meridian, served as principal at Carthage Junior High, Leake County assistant superintendent of education and superintendent of education of Leake County Schools from 1996-2001. He was named Outstanding Young Educator at Meridian and Carthage, Outstanding Young Man in America and Rotarian of the Year.
    Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Elise "Dixie" Wiggins Petty of Carthage; two daughters, Anne Marie Petty of Carthage and Alise Davis of Cordova, Tenn.; a son, John Edward Petty of Carthage; son-in-law, Scott Davis of Cordova; two brothers, Richard L. Petty of Meridian and Ronald L. Petty of Rose Hill; and a sister-in-law, Regina Ladner Petty of Meridian.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, Al and Kathrine Petty.
    SADIE SKELTON WALLACE
    BUTLER, Ala. Services for Sadie Skelton Wallace will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Bumpers Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
    Mrs. Wallace, 97, of Butler, died Saturday, March 24, 2001, in Butler.
    Survivors include a son, Howard Wallace of Butler; five daughters, Helen Campbell, Louise Williamson and Sally Hughes, all of Butler, Katie Mae Turner of Needham, and Lorine Holland of Mobile; a sister, Margaret Thompson of Butler; a brother, Bill Skelton of Selma; 38 grandchildren, 68 great-grandchildren and 56 great-great-grandchild.
    Visitation will be today from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
    EDNA O. LINTON
    Retired teacher
    Services for Edna O. Linton will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at Cokers Chapel Methodist Church with the Revs. David Kellar and Jessie Lon officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with James F. Webb Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
    Mrs. Linton, 80, of Meridian, died Friday, March 23, 2001, in Meridian. She was a member of Cokers Chapel United Methodist Church, where she was a member of Joy Sunday school and served as record secretary and was a member of the board of directors. She had graduated from Lincoln Memorial University magna cum laude.
    Survivors include a daughter, Melwyn L. Booker and her husband, Johnnie Mac, of Whynot; two sons, Owen Bruce Linton and his wife, Cheryl, of Watson, La., and William Samuel Linton and his wife, Wanda, of White Oak, Ga.; two sisters, Nola Robins and Nona Skeen, both of Haurogate, Tenn.; grandchildren, Kennith Robert Booker and his wife, Nicole, of Clinton; Rena Ellen Wilkerson and her husband, Steve, of Daleville; Owen Bruce Linton III and his wife, Marcia, of Kalamazoo, Mich., the Rev. Michael Boyd Linton and his wife, Etta, of Clarksville, Texas, Lee Charles Linton and Samual Wade Linton and his wife, Mandy, of Statesbrough, Ga.; a great-grandson, Jared Wade Linton; and a great-granddaughter, Samantha Gene Linton.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, William Lee Linton.
    Visitation will be today from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home and Monday from 9:30 a.m. until services at the church.
    Pallbearers include Billy Buchanan, James Michael "Butch" Linton, Andy Linton, Robert Louis "Buddy" Rasberry, Ronnie Linton and Eddie Ashmore.

    DEKALB Arrangements were incomplete at E.E. McDonald Funeral Home for Nona McDonald, 68, of Collinsville, who died Saturday, March 24, 2001, at her residence.
    ROSIE MITCHELL
    Arrangements were incomplete at Barham Funeral Home for Rosie Mitchell, 74, of Meridian, who died Saturday, March 24, 2001.
