Clarkdale drills Nanih Waiya, remains unbeaten

The Lady Bulldogs of Clarkdale easily disposed of Nanih Waiya Monday afternoon, beating the Lady Warriors 20-0 in fast-pitch softball action.
Emily Howard picked up the win for Clarkdale. Howard is now 6-0, while the Lady Dogs are 9-0.
Alana Hickman took the loss for Nanih Waiya.
Howard also led the Lady Bulldogs at the plate, going 2-for-2, including a triple.
Casey Meador and JorD'an Orr each had doubles for the Lady Bulldogs and Lindsey Stamm belted a home run.
The Lady Bulldogs also went 4-0 in the East Central Tournament held in Hurley this past weekend.
Newton County 22, Choctaw Central 0: The defending Class 3A-2A-1A state champion Lady Cougars shut out Choctaw Central 22-0 Monday for their fourth win of the young season.
April Bufkin picked up the win for the Lady Cougars.
Nora Wilson took the loss for the Lady Warriors.
Kristin Chaney went 3-for-4 to lead the Lady Cougars at the plate and Dominique Mapp went 2-for-2 including a home run.
As well as picking up the win on the mound, Bufkin belted a triple at the plate for the Lady Cougars.
Philadelphia 17, Noxapater 0: The Lady Tornadoes earned their first win of the young season, using a 10-run third inning to blow past Noxapater.
Philly led just 4-0 going into the bottom of the third.
Jennie Battle (1-1) was the winning pitcher for the Lady Tornadoes, and she also added a double at the plate. Jhaun Sparnecht had a triple for Philadelphia.
Baseball
Lake 10, Union 6: The Lake Hornets dropped Union Monday to improve to 3-2 on the season.
Eric Gunn (1-1) picked up the win for the Hornets, the defending Class 1A state champs.
Wes Henry took the loss for Union.
Jason McGee led the way with three RBIs on his two hits. Jason Massey, Bryan Williamson and Eric Watkins also had two hits apiece for the Hornets.
For Union, Vance Brooks and Justin Darby each had multiple hits.
Carthage 15, Kemper County 3: The Wildcats fell to their Division 5-3A rivals after Carthage scored seven runs apiece in the first and second innings.
The Tigers, 2-1, led 14-2 after two innings. Joseph Parker (1-0) got the win, and Carthage out-hit Kemper County 10-2.
Omarion Backstrom took the loss for the Wildcats.
