Lamar takes two from Heidelberg

For most of the year the word "press" has been a dirty one for the Lady Raiders of Lamar School.
But Lamar broke the Heidelberg Academy press time-after-time on Monday night to score the most points they have all season in a 48-37 win over the visiting Lady Rebels.
The Lamar boys also picked up a win, as Jared McKee scored 20 points and had 19 boards in a 60-40 victory.
The Raiders and Lady Raiders play host to Heritage Academy tonight beginning at 6 in what will be "Senior Night."
The Lamar girls led 28-22 at the half and stretched that to 40-29 with 1:23 left in the third quarter before the Lady Rebels began a mini-comeback.
Heidelberg whittled the lead to eight points, but could get no closer.
Libby Huff scored 24 points for the Lady Raiders, with most of those points coming off the press.
Myleia Shirley added eight for Lamar, which moved to 4-21 on the year with the win.
Ashlie McInnis led HA with 10 points, while Courtney Herrington scored eight.
The Lamar School boys were sluggish during most of the first half, but did score eight of the last 10 points of the second quarter to take a 24-17 lead at the half.
Junior point guard Justin Brewer stepped up big for Lamar in the second half, scoring 11 of the Raiders' first 13 points in the third quarter as Lamar jumped out to a 43-22 lead entering the final stanza.
Brewer and Eakes scored 13 points each for Lamar, which upped its record to 7-17.
Senior sharp-shooter Dusty Jones had been on fire the last five games, hitting on 55 percent of his 3-pointers and averaging 23.8 points a game over that span.
He hit a bump in the road on Monday night though, scoring just eight points and not making a 3-pointer. But Yates said he liked the way the team responded.
Eakes had 13 rebounds for the Raiders, while Jones had six assists and Huff had five with six rebounds.
Blake Bass led Heidelberg with 11 points, while Heath Ainsworth scored 10.
The Lamar junior high boys took over first place in the division with a 49-45 win over Manchester last Friday. David Haggard led the Raiders with 40 points in that game.
