    OBITUARIES FOR SATURDAY, DEC. 16, 2000

    DOROTHY FAYE ACKER
    Homemaker, part-time Realtor
    Memorial services for Dorothy Faye Acker will be held today at 10 a.m. at Barham Funeral Home Chapel, with her son, Greg Acker, and other family members officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
    Mrs. Acker, 70, of Lewisville, Texas, died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000, in her home. She was a homemaker and part-time Realtor who had lived in Meridian most of her adult life.
    Survivors include a son, Greg Acker of Coppell, Texas; a daughter, Deborah Acker of Lavallette, N.J.; two sisters, Lavelle Haggard of Mobile, Ala., and Velma Hooks of Louisville; two brothers, Buren Ruth of Vicksburg and Charlie Ruth of Longview, Wash.; and three grandchildren, Erin Acker, Jonathan Acker and Austin Acker.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Acker, and a son, Randy Acker.
    The family requests memorials be made to the American Lung Association in Mrs. Acker's name.
    ORA LEE COOK
    Homemaker
    MAGEE Services for Ora Lee Cook were held Friday, Dec. 15 at Mims Mitchell Funeral Home. Burial was in Everett Cemetery in Smith County.
    Ms. Cook, 90, of Magee, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, in her home.
    Survivors include four sisters, Ludie Trest of Laurel, Vera Daniel of Meridian, Ardrey Canterbury of Jackson and Mildred McIntosh of Pinola; and several nieces and nephews.
    She was preceded in death by her father, T.A. Johnson and her mother, Mary Garner.
    VIRGINIA A. CLARK
    Retired from Dennison
    Services for Virginia A. Clark will be held today at 11:30 a.m. at Barham Funeral Home Chapel, with the Revs. Nick Holden and Roy Dabbs officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Horeb Cemetery.
    Mrs. Clark, 65, of Meridian, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center. She was a member of Mt. Horeb Baptist Church.
    Survivors include her husband, William D. Clark Jr., a daughter, Ramona Napp and her husband, Jessie, and two grandchildren, Karen and A.J. Napp, all of Meridian; two sisters, Margaret Bailey of Jackson and Evelyn Hayes of Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.
    She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
    Pallbearers will be Chris Gray, Ralph Thomas, Carl Wiggins, Mark Jenkins, Steve Jenkins, Barry Gray, Michael Burst and Hartford Jones.
    MELVIN ANTHONY
    Retired truck driver
    Services for Melvin "Doc" Anthony will be held today at 2:30 p.m. at Barham Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Shane Freeman officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
    Mr. Anthony, 76, of Meridian, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, at Benchmark Health Care.
    Survivors include his wife, Arlee Byrd Anthony of Meridian; two sons, Y.L. Anthony of Douglas, Ga., and Ray Anthony and his wife, Shelly, of Meridian; a daughter, Geraldine A. Beasley and her husband, Garland, of Douglas; a brother, Sam Anthony and his wife, Geneva, of Hazelhurst, Ga.; two sisters, Virgie Lee Reynolds of Bessemer, Ala., and Christine Talbert of Pensacola, Fla.; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
    Visitation will be today beginning at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.

    Tree and cattle farmer
    QUITMAN Services for James C. Brewer Sr. will be held today at 10:30 a.m. at Wright's Funeral Home chapel with the Revs. Tommy Gilbert and Mitchell McDonald officiating. Burial will be in Andrews Chapel Cemetery.
    Mr. Brewer, 75, of Shubuta, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, at his residence. He was a native of the Langsdale community in Clarke County, where he and his son operate a tree farm and cattle operation. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Quitman and was a graduate of Carmichael High School, Jones Junior College and Mississippi State University.
    He served as a county Farm Bureau board director for about 47 years and served seven years on the state board of directors of the Mississippi Farm Bureau. He served as chairman of the State Beef Commodity Division of the State Farm Bureau and was a member of the American Farm Bureau Federation Beef Cattle Advisory Committee. He was active in the Mississippi Cattlemen's Association, the Mississippi State University Alumni Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars and served one term as a member of the board of the Quitman Chamber of Commerce.
    He served as chairman of the Board of Directors for H.C. Watkins Hospital for 15 years. He was a director of the East Mississippi Electric Power Association Board and served on the board of directors of the Meridian Stockyard. He was selected as the State's Outstanding Young Farmer by the Jaycees in 1960. He served four years as a member of the State Veterans Farm and Home Board and served one term on the Clarke County Board of Supervisors in Beat 5.
    Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Martha P. Brewer of the Langsdale community; a daughter, Jennifer B. Mungo and her husband, Michael, of Columbia, S.C.; a son, James C. Brewer Jr. and his wife, Susan, of Langsdale; a grandson, Stephen Lewis; two sisters, Beatrice Loeb of Meridian and Gladys Roberts of Columbia, S.C.; and two granddaughters, Beth and Claire Lynn Brewer.
    The family requests memorials be made to Andrews Chapel Memorial Cemetery Association or to a favorite charity.
