Arrests made in theft cases

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office was able to close out three separate theft cases this past week after an investigation led to the arrest of two suspects.

Steven Ray Burfield, Jr., 27, of Red Bay, was arrested and charged with first-degree theft of property, second-degree theft of property, two counts of third-degree burglary and criminal mischief.

Dedrick Eugene White, 35 of Russellville, was arrested and charged with second-degree receiving stolen property, third-degree receiving stolen property, first-degree possession of marijuana, and three counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

According to Franklin County Sheriff Shannon Oliver, an investigation into recent burglaries and thefts that occurred as recently as July 8 led to Burfield and White being developed as suspects.

Oliver said Burfield was questioned regarding his involvement in the theft of multiple weapons that occurred in the Burnout community.

Oliver said information led officers to obtain a search warrant on July 10 for a residence on Zollie Barnes Road in Russellville.

White, who has previous felony convictions, was located at the residence.

According to Oliver, the search produced various drugs that were seized, including marijuana and crack cocaine. Investigators also found two Stihl weed eaters and one Stihl chainsaw.

Oliver said White directed law enforcement to a different location where the weapons stolen in the Burnout burglary were reportedly hidden.

Investigators said they recovered 11 long guns and one handgun that were all previously reported stolen.

Oliver said both Burfield and White were arrested and charged with the thefts.
